The main message right at the beginning of the session was about Ihsan, doing things with a level of excellence as if Allah is right in front of you watching you.
This day was about demonstrating focus, commitment, and time management in preparation for the final show.
Much discussion over which vocals only audios to use, final outfits, final decor list and where to get it all from, the editing of the promotional video and the flyer. We wanted the girls to make sure they covered everything right down to the fine tuning of the smaller details like refreshments for the guests and seating arrangements.
Day 1 of the Lil’ Sis Wear Your Crown 5-day workshop…
Today was very much about visioning, Identity and collective imagination. Brainstorming the theme and structure of the show.
But in the earlier part of the session we spoke about Niyah (intention) - setting the correct intention la for why we are here and why we all wanted to be involved in this workshop.
it’s been absolutely amazing so far! The girls worked hard to create the concept for the Modest Fashion Show on Friday.
Wednesday started of as “one of THOSE days” for me because the TFL just wanted to be annoying and cause problems for us and asa a result we arrived late.
BUT… Alhamdulillah for Islam because SABR is a whole skill in itself and this day I realised just how much I was challenging myself AS WELL as these girls.
But Wednesday was about making the aesthetics align with the agreed theme and our Islamic values of modesty.
It was about helping the girls to develop problem solving skills when working with limited time, resources and materials.
It was about encouraging collaboration across teams to ensure cohesion between fashion, staging and storytelling.
And most importantly it was about building confidence in them in relation to not only their skills and talents but also their identity as young Muslim women.
The game is called “The trust walk” it was a trust building exercise for the girls. One blind-folded being lead by the rest of their team, they each had a turn.
We then asked them to write on the whiteboard - their strengths and what they enjoyed doing “I like organising” “I like creating nice things” “I enjoy talking to people”
We wanted to identify different roles adjacent to their different personalities. And it did prove to be a challenge - especially because the majority of them wanted to be on the styling team, but we needed to also balance out the ages as well as abilities across the 4 different teams.
We also wanted them to recognise their own strengths and sometimes it’s not until your put into a position for the first time that you recognise you have a particular strength.

The Caribbean food by @chefcflavours was giving all the feels and left me with the right kind of fatigue (the belly buff one)
And the goodies from @blackoudlondon and @benefitcosmeticsuk were a beautiful touch
It’s always lovely to see familiar faces and meet new ones and it was equally amazing to be invited to a space with so many sisters who are reaching amazing heights in their various industries.
Left there with a heart full of gratitude and a belly full of curry goat, jerk chicken and rice & peas as well as milk cake on top - couldn’t have asked for a better evening tbh 🫶🏾

I hosted an Intimate Eid Dinner with @benefitcosmeticsuk ON A BOAT! 🥹🥺 and it was absolutely unreal. A brand that has a team who are the most genuine souls that don’t play about authenticity, diversity and representation.
The incredible amounts of love pouring into one space was enough to make the boat sink 🤭
The dream team @keepingupwithkibs and @amy_chinnah bought the entire concept together. I just wanted it to feel like ‘home’ so having the most incredible Caribbean caterers @chefcflavours cheffing up the most authentic home cooked grub for us & a chill atmosphere to match….. you guys just HAD to be there🙆🏾♀️
In this industry, there is absolutely nobody like dem lots mother so to be received well, celebrated & given opportunities like this, only Allah knows how much I deeply appreciate it🥺 ok byeeeeeeee, I need to put dem lot to bed🤣 #demlotsmother #benefitcosmetics
