Most people use "silk" and "satin" interchangeably.
They shouldn't.
One is a fiber, a natural protein produced by silkworms, prized for centuries for its breathability, strength, and that signature soft glow.
The other is a weave. It is a construction technique that creates a glossy surface, regardless of what it's made from.
Which means satin can be silk. But it can also be polyester, viscose, cotton, or acetate. And every version behaves completely differently on the body.
For designers and brands, this distinction matters more than most product descriptions admit. It shapes drape, durability, comfort, sustainability and ultimately, how a garment is perceived.
