MOFWAZE CARNIVAL Carnival in Guadeloupe and Martinique is a vibrant celebration where fashion and culture intertwine. This series captures the imagined spirits of Caribbean women during the festivities — proud, powerful, and endlessly expressive. The fifth look, The Matador, draws from the heritage of Caribbean costuming and the poised elegance of the Caribbean matador woman, confident, adorned, and deliberate. It references the traditional jupon, reimagined through contemporary structure and material. Melodie wears a men’s shirt from the collection, paired with a leather skirt embossed with a crocodile effect. The silhouette nods to the classic petticoat while bringing focus to the line of the leg and the strength of form. The look is finished with a headwrap, a precise gesture toward Caribbean identity. MOFWAZE CARNIVAL Carnival in Guadeloupe and Martinique is a vibrant celebration where fashion and culture intertwine. This series captures the diverse spirits imagined of Caribbean women during the festivities. The first look, Siwo, draws inspiration from the tradition of covering oneself in Mosyan Syrup. In this variation of the Siwo look, shot in front of the Trenelle district in Martinique, Melodie wears a bubble skirt, shoes, and a crown-like headdress made entirely of synthetic hair, symbolizing Afro identity, resilience, and pride. The location itself speaks volumes: Trenelle, like many modest neighborhoods, holds the roots of our stories. It reminds us that beauty and creativity are born from where we come from.
