FAAS is excited to announce that Gallery First and Tenth by Truman Homes was approved by Calgary Planning Commission. The building is envisioned as a landmark for Victoria Park and the Beltline, activating and enhancing the significant gateway corner of 10th Avenue and 1st Street SW. It features a two-storey podium base, articulated by bold, arched openings, curved glass, and high-quality stone cladding. The tower above incorporates brass soffit and fascia details of the podium, and its floor-to-ceiling glass provides residents with expansive views of downtown and the Beltline. A double height main level has the capacity to house four premium retail spaces, designed with the intent of extending the incredible 1st Street restaurant district. The proposed walkway along the 10th Avenue and 1st Street SW frontages is planned as a continuous commemoration piece, flanked by a commissioned mural of The Backlot and a commemorative wall dedicated to the story of the Second Chinatown. Mural artwork and storytelling content to be developed in consultation with community groups and the City.

Project Announcement! 🎉
Sylvan Lake mixed-use building consists of 43 residential units and 3 commercial units, designed to strengthen and anchor mixed-use development on the two major streets. The building design pays homage to Sylvan Lake's historic hotels, using materials and aesthetics that highlight the area's charm, with the intent of attracting more visitors to the lakeshore. A key feature is the 5th-floor common outdoor amenity space for residents, offering a unique communal area with stunning views. Additionally, the project includes a covered courtyard space that supports year-round use and increased commercial frontage opportunities. Multiple circulation paths are incorporated into the design to invite people into the public space, creating a more engaging and dynamic environment.

More than a building... this is a place to connect. 🫶
Nari is envisioned as a mixed-use community hub in the heart of Marda Loop, designed to support wellbeing, culture, and everyday connection.
At street level, a vibrant mix of retail, cafés, and potential food hall spaces creates a warm, welcoming place for the neighbourhood to gather.
Above, four levels of seniors’ residences are designed for comfort, independence, and aging in place, with shared amenities and terraces that encourage connection and community.
A rooftop garden supports food growing and gathering, while a shared kitchen and flexible wellness centre, including access to medical and health services, are designed for both residents and the broader community.
A place designed for Calgary’s Korean seniors, and for the broader community to come together.
Bridging more than just a road.
The Stadium Bridge project is part of a major urban revitalization effort in northwest Calgary, reconnecting communities currently divided by 16th Avenue.
Designed to support walking, cycling, and transit, the pedestrian bridge:
➡️ links regional pathways
➡️ improves access to the North Crosstown BRT
➡️ creates stronger connections to the Foothills Medical Centre and the future UXBorough development

From theory to practice... Gerry is all in. 💪
He brings enthusiasm and curiosity to the practical side of architecture, and we’re so grateful to have him apart of the FAAS team!
In mountain towns, the best architecture works with the landscape... not against it. ⛰️
Our latest project in Three Sisters Mountain Village, Canmore steps with the slope through terraced building clusters - minimizing site disturbance while reducing visual massing.
The goal: a human-scaled mountain village with strong pedestrian connections.
Architecturally, the design draws from traditional mountain forms:
✔️ Steep pitched roofs
✔️ Deep overhangs
✔️ Natural stone and exposed timber
✔️ Muted fibre-cement siding
Materials and forms that feel rooted in the Bow Valley landscape.
Architecture that belongs to its place.

What does thoughtful density look like?
At Casa Ridge, it means:
✔️ 100 new homes
✔️ 6600 sqft of activated ground-floor retail
✔️ Shared co-working and lounge spaces
✔️ A rooftop amenity designed for year-round living
✔️ All within a walkable, transit-oriented location
Live above it. Work within it. Walk to everything.
