Media reports revealed that the Dutch referee was investigated during his stay in London while working as a VAR official in a European match, before the case was later closed without any official charges.
According to several reports, the incident could lead to his exclusion from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but so far there has been no official statement from FIFA confirming the decision.

Referee Mel Burgin will lead the team of match officials for the Adobe Women’s FA Cup Final 🏆
Mel will be supported by assistant referees Anastasiya Voloshchuk and Leoni Harland. Phoebe Cross has been appointed as fourth official with Ruby Sykes as reserve assistant referee.
Paul Howard and Neil Davies will operate as VAR and AVAR respectively for the final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 31 May.
