âEarthly Desiresâ
This is the second in my âStill Living in the Pastâ series.
This series started as a way to cope during the time I spent cleaning out my parentsâ old house last year. It explores the feeling of being stuck in the past while striving to move forward. We get stuck reminiscing and forget to find balance and purpose in the present. Each piece has at least one item that implies movement, breaking with the traditional âstill lifeâ.
Items featured:
Old: A decorative plate made in Japan in the 1970s and a small green pitcher that belonged to my grandmother, sheet music from my mom (I cannot recall the song), a hand shaped soap dish I got when I worked at West Elm back in the day (I used it as an ash tray), a wine stopper my coworkers gave me before I moved to NYC 15yrs ago (it originally said STOP and yes FDT means what you think it does đ)
New: Some RAW joints inscribed like bullets (s/o Luigi), the wine that got me through that year, a pair of eyelashes, and a small orange.

Today is my dadâs birthday. When I was a kid heâd always say âyou know a genius was born on this day!â because itâs also Einsteinâs birthday đ So I drew him this little sketch since I couldnât be there to celebrate with him. Happy birthday to my first friend! I love you dad.

Iâve been thinking about my great aunt Natalie a lot today. She always made me feel like I belonged. Through example she taught me to take good care of my hair, skin, and nails and to always be myself. She sang like an angel and played piano so beautifully even in her later years. I took this at her 96th birthday party. Before international womenâs day ends I wanted to post something in her honor. Miss you so much aunt Nat.
Life been life-ingâŚ.
That feeling when youâre almost done putting that puzzle together, but then you realize a few pieces are missing- frustrated but determined.
But we continue to keep finding joy where they said it wonât be⌠creating and hoping for the future.
