What inspired me most about producing this story was the opportunity to tell it in its most authentic form. Candice (@candicealise ) is an incredible artist, entrepreneur, wife to @wilhelmduke , and—most recently—a mother. As a documentary filmmaker, the challenge was capturing the many layers of her character and shedding light on them within just 11 minutes. For this project, I reminded myself to simply let her be herself and allow the lens to tell the story. During our interview, I asked only a few guiding questions, giving Candice the space to express her journey in her own words. I encouraged her to start from the beginning, as her upbringing played a key role in shaping her artistic perspective and the way she continues to share her creativity with audiences on an international level. For the past few years, we’ve been developing L.A.W without funding, purely out of love for the story. What began in 2022 as an idea to speak on Chicago’s mental health landscape became a year-long journey following Law and his peers, leading up to How Much 4 Therapy’s one-year album anniversary. These photos are behind-the-scenes shots from the production, utilizing the spaces granted to us to help tell this story. While sitting down with @candicealise , I learned how deeply she once dreamed of working with @vice . For a long time, every attempt felt like a closed door. But what she didn’t realize then was that her path wasn’t meant to be linear, it was meant to be hers. Through the undeniable presence she built with @artafterdarkofficial (@artafterdarkwien ), and the unexpected connections formed along the way, the very company she admired ended up finding her. Her story is a reminder that when you become obsessed with your purpose and pour into your craft, the opportunities you chase often come back to meet you in ways you never saw coming.
