👋 Meet Netania, Smart Futures Alum and AI Solutions Apprentice at Microsoft!
Netania came back to EY Foundation as a volunteer this spring, to deliver a Microsoft session to young people on our Business & Tech programme.
“I remember the people who helped me... guide my decisions and actually brought me to the position I where I was today. And I felt like it would be, almost like an injustice if i didn’t do the same...”
🔊 Take a moment to listen to Netania’s full reflections on her journey—from alum to apprentice, and now returning as a volunteer —a true full circle moment.

❔ How can large employers move beyond short term engagement to create real pathways into work for young people?
We spoke to Claire Algar, Social Inclusion Manager at the University of Warwick, about her passion for nurturing untapped talent — and how Warwick is shaping its ambitions to drive social mobility across its workforce.
💡 “If you’re always recruiting the same type of people from the same backgrounds, you are not truly embedding diversity. Young people from underrepresented backgrounds bring fresh eyes, creativity and innovation — and if you want to be seen as an employer of choice, taking this approach is good practice.”
From rethinking recruitment criteria to supporting interns as they navigate what full time work really involves, Claire shows how large employers can open doors, strengthen talent pipelines and future proof their workforce — without lowering the bar.

🙌 This April, we launched Beyond Horizons – a new pilot in Bradford reimagining work experience by giving young people the time, space and confidence to think about their futures.
Here’s what we’ve learnt so far:
✅ Young people value reflection without pressure
✅ Challenging assumptions broadens views of jobs and careers
✅ A strengths‑based approach builds confidence for what’s next
Pupils told us they feel more prepared, open‑minded and confident about the range of pathways into work – showing that impactful work experience doesn’t have to centre on a single placement.
We’ll continue delivery across Bradford, involving more employers (including SMEs), and refining the programme - and if you’re a school or employer interested in rethinking work experience, contact us at [email protected]

📣 The EY Foundation have launched our AI Youth Voice Project!
Off the back of our AI and Social Mobility report, published earlier this year, we’ve partnered with the @uniofnottingham to work with young people from low-income backgrounds and employers, to build and test a toolkit that employers can use to bring youth voice into decisions on how AI is developed and deployed.
👀 If you’re a young person interested in influencing how employers are using AI, or an employer looking to deploy AI in an inclusive way, get in touch to find out more and take part in our workshops this summer👉 [email protected]

📢 New report launching next week — join our live webinar on Tuesday, 28 April (11:00–12:00) for a discussion on our findings.
The UK is investing heavily in the transition to a greener economy. However, research with young people, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, shows a clear disconnect. The term ‘green jobs’ is often unclear, sometimes unappealing, and can make these jobs feel out of reach. In reality, they may offer exactly what young people from low-income backgrounds tell us they want: secure, well-paid work with clear pathways and progression.
So how do we bridge that gap?
Next Tuesday, drawing on new research from NPC’s Everyone's Environment programme, funded by the EY Foundation, we’re excited to invite you to register for an online report launch event. We’ll be discussing the report’s key insights and actions needed to make these opportunities feel accessible and worth pursuing for young people.
🔗 Link in bio to register and hear from employers, policymakers, educators, and young people, to find out how you can help make green economy opportunities more visible and accessible.
🎉 A huge well done and congratulations to all the young people who have graduated from our Spring programmes!
Your growth over the past few weeks has been incredible – you’ve achieved so much and taken big steps towards your future goals.
🙌 Some of our highlights have included…
🔎 Young people exploring the question 'How might we ensure that no young adult is disadvantaged in employment due to a lack of access to technology?', conducting research, carrying out street interviews, and presenting their innovative solutions.
📊 Introducing young people to the world of banking and finance, with support from fantastic volunteers across our employer partner network.
💻 Young people developing their coding skills through interactive Business & Tech Hackathon sessions!
👏 And of course, none of this would have been possible without the brilliant volunteers and organisations who shared their time, effort and expertise, including:
@thamesfreeport , @atom.bank

🤖 How is tech changing the world of work for young people and are we ready for it?
Today, we’re bringing our work with IFOW to APPG on Future of Work’s roundtable, to share how channeling motivation can build a young person’s sense of purpose, confidence, and agency, improving their outcomes in education and employment.
Bringing their lived experience to the conversation, Nana and Kyro, The EY Foundation’s Youth Voice Forum members, share their reflections on...
👉 Their motivations for applying for our Youth Voice Forum;
👉 What has helped or hindered their motivation to learn and access opportunities to date;
👉 And what they think policymakers often misunderstand about how young people experience motivation and employment barriers.
