Whenever we organized something we wanted the main focus to be live music rather than DJs, and we’re grateful to everyone who played at our Love Motel sessions and our album release parties. We are approaching the end of our run as a label, with just one more release in the works. 2025 felt like a slow year for the label, but we still manage to put out three releases: Edgelords of Acid limited edition lathe-cut 7” by Xander Harris, CHiCHiKAFO EP by Chichikafo and the full-length album Touch of Leather, Touch of Lace by Dialator. Our activities as a label are coming to an end soon. We have one more project in the pipeline, and that will mark the end of Extra Noir. It’s not a bad thing - in fact, our final release will be our 30th, which means we’ve done a lot more than we expected to back in 2017, when our first record came out. We’ll have a bit more to say as we get closer to our final release, but in the meantime, thanks always for your support. Best wishes for 2026! Andy and Laura

Keith McIvor, our friend who died of brain cancer last week, loved sharing music, and did it with unparalled generosity. When it came to music, he was easily the most knowledgeable person that I’ve ever met, yet he was always firmly opposed to elitist gatekeeper bullshit, and he wanted everyone to get as much joy from it as he did. This is a list of my top 20 tracks that I was introduced to by Keith. I’ve had to be a little strict with the criteria, because if I just chose good music that Keith used in DJ sets, the list would be virtually endless (though some of my choices will be familiar to anyone who frequented Optimo in the early to mid-2000s). Instead, I’ve chosen music that Keith made a special effort to share or promote in some way. Since he more or less dedicated his life to that act, his sharing took multiple forms: uploading mp3s to various websites, writing liner notes, blog posts and guest articles, identifying mystery songs, taking interviewers on tours of his record collection, releasing hundreds of albums and singles through his multiple labels, and sometimes literally just giving records away. I probably would have encountered some of this music later down the road, but as was so often the case, Keith got there first. So here’s my personal list, in no particular order, of tracks that I discovered directly through Keith. What’s the point of this? Well, ideally it will enrich your life as much as it has mine. But I would settle for just one person discovering something new and thanking Keith for his role in that discovery.
