Today is Endangered Species Day. Since launching Sketch for Survival, thousands of artists from around the world have used creativity to shine a light on species and habitats under threat - from elephants and pangolins to snow leopards and sharks. Art alone cannot stop extinction. But it can start conversations, inspire action, raise funds, and help keep these stories visible. Thank you to every artist, supporter, and conservation partner who continues to be part of the journey towards a wilder future. Submissions for this year’s Sketch for Survival close on 31 May (Junior competition) and 30 June (main competition). #EndangeredSpeciesDay #SketchForSurvival #ArtForConservation #Conservation #WildlifeArt #Extinction #ArtistsForConservation #EAE 🎨 Paul Wilson SFS 100 Finalist 2022

Dusk on the Maunachira River. After an afternoon exploring the Xakanaxa Lagoon by boat, there are few better places to end the day than beside the fire pit at Okuti Camp. 📍Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana @kerdowneybw #Botswana #OkavangoDelta #Safari #LuxurySafari #OkutiCamp #KerAndDowneyBotswana #TravelWithPurpose #WildAfrica

A reminder that rewilding is rarely straightforward. This Grevy’s zebra was rescued as an orphaned foal, hand-reared and later released through a rewilding programme in Kenya’s Namunyak Community Conservancy. Although now living wild, some hand-reared animals take time to fully readjust to life without human contact. Case in point. While we were watching wildlife elsewhere, this Grevy’s wandered over to greet ranger Peter and was extremely determined to get a head scratch. Interactions like this with tourists are discouraged, but it was a fascinating glimpse into the long and often complicated road back to the wild. Grevy’s zebra are the world’s largest and rarest zebra species, distinguished by their narrow stripes, large rounded ears and white belly. Once widespread across the Horn of Africa, they are now endangered, threatened by habitat loss, drought and competition with livestock. There are thought to be fewer than 3,000 Grevy’s zebra remaining in the wild. There is encouraging news though. According to the latest report from Grevy's Zebra Trust, field teams recorded 2,743 Grevy’s zebra sightings across northern Kenya last year. Foals and juveniles accounted for 33% of sightings, up from 29% in 2024 - a hopeful sign for the future of this remarkable species. #GrevysZebra #Kenya #Conservation #Rewilding #Namunyak #WildlifeConservation #EAE

Sketch for Survival 2026 is our 10th Sketch for Survival. Just 100 artworks will be selected by our panel for exhibition and inclusion in our online fundraising auction. Each piece must champion a threatened species (as classified by the IUCN Red List), or tell an important conservation story. Sketch for Survival raises awareness about biodiversity loss while generating funds for frontline conservation projects. It is a global partnership between artists and Explorers Against Extinction, united by a shared commitment to protect the wild. Submissions close 30 June 2026. Visit our website for details or see the link in bio. #SketchForSurvival #ArtCompetition #ConservationArt #ArtForConservation 🎨 Hope for Baby Pangolin by Marsha Wangsadiredja 🇮🇩 Indonesia Ground Pangolin Watercolour & Drawing Pen 🏅 SFS100 Finalist 2025 "In this piece, I drew a baby pangolin — one of the most vulnerable and misunderstood creatures in the wild. With every scale, every detail, I wanted to capture its delicate beauty and quiet strength. There's a soulful look in its eyes that speaks volumes, reminding us of all the lives we share this planet with. I created this artwork in the hope that these gentle beings will have a real chance to survive and thrive in their natural home. The Earth belongs to them just as much as it does to us, and I believe it is time we stop exploiting it solely for our own gain. This drawing is my small tribute to their existence, and a wish for their future." — Marsha Wangsadiredja

Pull up a chair. Perched high on the Kogakuria Kopjes in the northern Serengeti, Lamai Serengeti commands sweeping views across the plains towards the Mara River - one of the great wildlife frontiers of East Africa. From July onwards, the Great Migration herds begin to arrive in their thousands, pushing north in search of fresh grazing in Kenya’s Masai Mara. It is one of nature’s greatest spectacles, and the guiding team here ensure guests experience it with the patience, space and respect that the wildlife deserves. Beyond migration season, this remains a magical place to absorb the scale and beauty of the Serengeti. #Serengeti #Tanzania #GreatMigration #Safari #LuxuryTravel #Africa #MasaiMara #TravelWithPurpose #wildafrica 📷EAE Lamai Serengeti @nomadtanzania

The latest Ranger Report from Mara Elephant Project highlights the scale of snaring threatening wildlife across the Greater Mara Ecosystem. Since 2022, the number of snares found and removed by rangers has almost doubled year-on-year, with more than 1,300 recovered during 2025 alone. These posts, laden with recovered snares, stand at the entrance to MEP HQ in Mara North Conservancy - photographed during our project visit in February. #MaraElephantProject #Kenya #MaasaiMara #Conservation #AntiPoaching #Elephants #WildlifeProtection #EAE
