Colorado friends, come weave with us.
This Tuesday: we will explore movement, dialogue, embodied communication, and rhythm. Dance, for short.. For long, for all that lies, and truths, within us, without us and through us.
Witness, be witnessed, and expand your range to feel, attune, express.
Prerequisite: a beating heart.
That is all. Truly.
Come as you are.

Welcome to The Aquarium:
Equalize your ears, as we descend on a weightless sonic dive. No goggles required, just an open heart and willing hips/tail.
Come at 6:30 for a water-themed Dance lab: get ready to drift, flow with the tides, and maybe try on a new texture or two.
Bioluminescent beats pulsing in the 3D darkness, a splash of deep-house swells, and pockets of playful bass that bubble up to tickle your gills.
Expect low gravity, zero pressure, and all the freedom to float, swim, or deep-dive your way through the waves of sound.
All Merpeople, fish, mammals & mythical Sea Creatures welcome.
Come as you are.
Clip from a 1:1 dance session with OG Experiments In Rhythm Grasshopper @angelinflowmotion . Angel is leading me through a verbal movement journey, and I’m simply responding to her suggestions and the music.
The voiceover is an important soundbite from @sirkenrobinson ‘s “Do schools kill creativity?” @ted talk. He continues on in this talk to mention the importance of dance and embodiment to creativity. How modern education is predicated around people USING their bodies simply as “brain carriers”, rather than a vital, inseparable part of a whole being/brain/nervous system.

#DanceAsYouAre
If you are waiting for a sign.. This is it.
All of life is a dance: our work, relationships, activities, we dance with them all in a never ending swirl. So when it comes time to do the physical, emotional, spiritual act of “dance” why do our (or our students’) nervous systems tense? How can we come back to a place of freedom, expression, authenticity in our bodies? These are important questions, and part of the theme this year.
Retreat is nearly half full, and early bird pricing ends tomorrow!! I will honor the early 🐦 discount for all applications that are submitted by then.
Since the beginning of time, we’ve danced to process the stuff of life. If you’re here, you likely have an embodied expression practice. Maybe you call yourself a dancer, maybe not. Regardless, you’ve felt how free movement alchemizes the tough stuff of life — low emotions, mental blocks, limiting beliefs — into beauty, connection, and aliveness.
If this rings true within you, join us for the Back Doors to Dance Retreat: Aug 22-26, in Loveland, CO.
This retreat is designed for individuals of any level seeking to deepen their dance practice, as well as facilitators looking to learn more about free movement facilitation and connect with a supportive community. Through an inside-out approach centered on play, exploration, and sensation, we aim to connect even the most adamant “non-dancer” with their most expressive body. Our style-agnostic approach will help you set your inner dancer free and hone your skills in facilitating this process for others.
Dates: August 22-26
Location: beautiful wilderness of Sunrise Ranch, in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies
Join a curious group of movement minds and elaborate on your personal and/or facilitation practice in a nurturing, dynamic environment. For more details and to Apply, visit my bio or bit.ly/BDTD24.

If you have spent a significant amount if time doing some form of “free movement”, you have likely found that so many of the “aesthetically pleasing” movements we see, or do, are rooted in the sensational aspects of that movement. More simply: the things that feel good, often look good. When we lose track of the feelings though, it’s easy to get caught in the vicious aesthetics cycle: trying to look a certain way and forgetting to feel.

The top-down or “outside in” approach to dance has gone too far. The function has been lost to form: the sensation lost to mass appeal.

Idea: play a song at 200% speed. Film a Dance to it. Slow the final video to 50% speed.
Result: you get “regular speed” music (slight distortions) with slow-motion video and sound effects…
Thus: Musicality is still possible. Difficult, but possible 🤩.
These are Experiments In Rhythm 🧪
Movement, rhythm, expression: dance.. It’s not about aesthetics or “moves”.
It’s not about what things look like or appear to be...
It’s about feeling.
It’s about feeling beneath feeling: the layers under the skin, under the tissue, under the organs.
It’s a direct line to emotion: call it cosmic, spiritual, source...
Whatever you call it, it’s real.
Look for it deep in the eyes of the dancer in front of you, in the mirror, in your past. It is calling.
It’s calling your mind, your body, your soul.
It’s calling those things free.
Free them all.
Free Your Soul.

I asked DALL-E for an artistic representation of this work… Look closely at what I got back in the form of this image.
🫀 Welcome to the heart of Experiments in Rhythm – a journey back to the essence of who we are through the art of movement. Here, we don’t just “dance”; we embark on experiences that awaken the depth of our embodiment and connection.
🦴 Every session is an excavation, a careful uncovering of the dance that lives within us all. Guided by sensation, rhythm, and the stories etched in our being, we explore movement as a profound medium of expression and discovery.
🤗 This is beyond “body work”; it’s movement work that honors the complexity and richness of human experience. Each initiation is both a discovery and a homecoming, inviting a deeper engagement with our stories, our bodies, and our collective presence.
✨ Whether through 1:1 explorations or group classes and Dance Karaoke, Experiments in Rhythm offers a space to reconnect with the foundational aspects of movement that make us inherently human. Feeling becomes gesture, becomes somatic story, in the ongoing narrative of becoming more authentically ourselves.
Join us on this explorative journey. One step at a time, let’s rediscover who we are, through the rhythm and flow that binds us.
