📌 Annamalaiyar Temple, Tiruvannamalai district, Tamil Nadu
Long ago in Thiruvannamalai, Brahma and Vishnu argued about who was greater. Then Shiva appeared as a boundless column of fire. Neither god could find its beginning or end. That fire cooled into rock and rose as the sacred Arunachala hill, with the great Arunachaleswarar Temple at its base.
Even today, pilgrims walk barefoot around the hill, step by step, in prayer. Each year during Karthigai Deepam, a giant flame is lit at the summit, and the hill glows like it once did — fire turned to stone, yet still a light in every heart.
