As part of Women in Construction week, our team is spotlighting the women of Excel and their remarkable work on our projects.
Today we are spotlighting Tricia Muellenbach, our Education Market Manager, and her work on the Rib Lake School District Facilities Assessment and Educational Space Analysis.
As an Education Market Manager, Tricia's role is to guide the District through the facility planning process with a strong emphasis on communications and engagement of students, staff, families, and the community. The goal of the project is to design an improvement plan that gives the students, staff, and community as much as possible in the most cost-effective way.
Tricia is currently working with our team of architects and engineers to fully assess the existing conditions of the Rib Lake School District buildings and sites as well as analyzing the space needs for teaching and learning. Parallel to this work, she is also working with the District to understand their communication techniques and helping them develop improvement strategies.
Thoughts from Tricia:
"I love learning about each new school district I work with. I spend time getting to know their staff, their community, and the strategic direction of the district to ensure their spaces fit their needs today and long into the future.
Every facilities assessment has challenges, but that’s the fun part. I enjoy how engaged our entire team gets in solving the issues that exist within sometimes very “worn” spaces. Districts don’t often have unlimited budgets to work with so it’s an art to create a plan that fits each community’s support/investment threshold."
In celebration of Women in Construction Week, we interviewed two of our female youth apprentices. New to the industry, we were excited to learn what their experiences have been like so far.
First up was Autumn. She has spent her apprenticeship with our Food Facilities Group, learning industry terminology and the AutoCAD system. Autumn aspires to one day be an architect.
It has been rewarding to see the drive and passion that Autumn has for the industry at such a young age. Help us support Autumn's career journey by liking this post!
As part of Women in Construction week, our team is spotlighting the women of Excel and their remarkable work on our projects.
First up is Julie Gorham, a Professional Engineer in our HVAC Design group, and her work on Ascent MKE.
The Ask
The Ascent MKE is the tallest timber structure in the world. This 25-story mass timber luxury apartment high-rise opened to the public in July 2022. The Ascent MKE property owner, New Land Enterprises, made many of their decisions based on sustainability. The most impactful was the choice to construct the high rise of mass timber, which greatly reduced the building’s carbon footprint. This goal of sustainability carried throughout the entire building and into our HVAC system.

It's the 25th Annual Women in Construction Week!
The National Association of Women in Construction selected this year's theme, 'Many Paths, One Mission', which celebrates different journeys women have taken toward the same goal: strengthening and amplifying the success of women in the construction industry.
Our team believes that this empowerment begins with encouragement. Many of the women at Excel felt that at a young age, there was more emphasis on careers in female-dominated industries. There were not nearly as many resources to explore opportunities in Architecture, Engineering, or Trades. Together, it is our goal to be a resource for the future generation of women in construction.
We encourage young women in the Fond du Lac area to learn more about Construction Industry careers through Excel's Explorer Program, Youth Apprenticeships, and Internships.
Our @exclstudio team shined bright last night at the Addy Awards held in Green Bay. The American Advertising Federation puts on an annual awards event where work is submitted from the previous year into a variety of categories and judged by a panel from outside the region. They brought home four gold awards, including the top award of the evening – the "Best of Show" award for their "Madone 7 launch" project for Trek. Congrats to our studio team!
