From “The Tempter” onward, the legendary wall of sound built by Bruce Franklin and Rick Wartell hit with crushing weight, while classics like “At The End Of My Daze”, “Run To The Light”, and “Revelation (Life Or Death)” turned the night into a hometown celebration.
And with Eric Wagner watching over the room from above the stage, the emotional weight of “Requiem” hit even harder.

📸: @miaacantrell So I did a thing the night before we helped Belle complete her journey. At the behest of my wife René, she, Mia, and I decided to have a night of “art with a twist”. Translation: we had drinks and made art. 😄
This was the first significant art that I have created on my own since I was probably in high school. Getting started took a little bit of a kickstart, but once I got rolling it was pretty comfortable and familiar again. This one is in one of Mia’s sketch pads that she loaned me since I haven’t had one in decades. It’s pretty simple, I merely set my favorite coffee mug (thanks, @elizabeth.owen !) and a decorative salt and pepper vase that was a gift to René from her sister many moons ago on the table and got to work. I’ve got the itch again, and I think I’m going to start sketching my favorite characters from classic vintage horror. Thanks to René and Belle, I’m back! 💚

Yesterday was one of the toughest days in our household ever. After much consideration, we all agreed that it was time to send Belle on her way. Even at nearly 21 years old, she still had great lab results. However, her body gave up on her. She couldn’t walk well anymore, and began falling off of the couch repeatedly. She would cry in pain from her back legs fighting to keep her up.
We loved her too much to allow her to suffer simply because we did not want her to leave us. So we sent her off with sushi, treats, and so much love. René, Brady, and I were all at her side as Mia held her as she took her last breath. She went out enjoying a lickable, and it barely took any of the push from the injection before she gave out. The vet said that was indicative of her body being ready. And just like that, Belle was gone.
It was a blessing to have you, ol’ gal. A Katrina rescue, Belle thrived in our yard as a hunter. She was never anything short of sweet and gentle with everyone. The house feels so empty, and for the first time in 32 years, there is no litter box duty in my life. That just feels strange. We all cried as we spent her last hours together, but we are all relieved as well. We love you, Belle! As much as I love performing, my favorite part of the festivals is always running into old friends! Bumped into Stoney in the crew area, and met with my guests Gabor and Luca Holdampf for a short visit! I was not well on this trip, so I did not get to visit as much as I would have liked. But even a quick hello and a hug make things better! I’m on the mend with one more show this coming Saturday, and then I get to go home to my lovely bride. I have not laid eyes on her since January 5th, so I can’t wait to be with her at home next week. 💕
