In the entire history of Exeter Ultimate we have never come in the top 3 or even top 5 at UMON so on an extremely windy weekend in Nottingham, the good lads set out to change that. Breezing through the pool on Saturday and the QF we knew for all teams that the wind was going to be the biggest opponent which proved to be just the case in the SF against Lboro 1 where both teams traded downwind in a game that did not look like going far. However, the power line and two timeout calls worked Exeter into the advantage with the upwind break which ended up being enough to win the game. So final time against a very strong Leeds 1 where again the wind dominated. But once again burning two time out calls and working hard into a head wind, the good guys managed to get the much sought after up wind break. Breaking upwind again later on was enough to win the final and take home the gold. Not a flashy, GB-stacked, well drilled side, just 13 blokes from Exeter with a couple Hamlins sessions in the back pocket running around. And they couldn't have done their club any prouder. Making Exeter history in style and looking sexy while doing so... job done... see you next year :)
Cheers, LP

Sun, wind, rain, and a little hail thrown in for good measure. ☀️🌧️❄️ The Exeter women faced it all and never stopped competing. The conditions were brutal, but the spirit? Unbreakable. After a full season of hard work, training, and dedication, they finished the year placing 10th in the country. What an achievement that reflects everything this group has given. Massive congratulations to every woman who competed and what an end to the season. You should all be incredibly proud. 💚🥏

The 2’s showed up and showed out at outdoor nats 🔥 Finishing 6th in their division against some seriously tough competition, the boys held their own and left it all on the field. Infinite layout catches had the sideline going wild, and multiple Callahans rounded off a statement weekend for the squad. 🥏

Huge weekend for the Mixed 1’s !!! 🤩Coming into the weekend we knew we had a very tough pool, but the team weren’t worried in the slightest and we were ready to go get top position ! Rising to the pressure, we started the day in the best way with a 13-0 W then continued taking a big W against Newcastle. We then went up against the favourites taking a close 11-7 L to Leeds. Of course we didn’t let this get us down though and kept our heads winning our final game placing us second in our pool !!
Due to the way the bracket fell, heading into day 2 we had a nice run to the final if we could stay clinical and keep winning. We did just that. Beating Sheff in the crossover, Lboro 2 in the quarter and then Manchester in a tightly fought 12-7 semi final. Unsurprisingly this put us up against the Leeds juggernaut in the final. Despite achieving Exeter’s best ever placement already we set our eyes on the gold. Unfortunately the frisbee aristocrats with their copious years of experience, deservingly, took home the gold in a close 12-8 loss to close out the weekend. Falling just short still didn’t feel disappointing as the peoples champions did the home crowd proud, and made Exeter history!

As a 2s team, we were absolutely thrilled just to have made it to Division 1 Nationals this year 🥳 ! Going to Nottingham with many new (and fresh!) faces in the squad, our goal was to prove ourselves to universities and gain as many seeds as possible from an initial bottom ranking. The first day saw us battling in our pool, with some very narrow losses that definitely could’ve gone the other way. Each match, however, gave the team opportunities to gel together and sharpen our play for the remaining games. Our crossover game on Sunday - and arguably our most important 😬- meant a win would automatically increase our seed by at least 4 positions! Every player put in the work straight from the start, and the mighty 2s finally earned our first win at Nationals 🔥. The following 2 matches were hard fought, but we couldn’t quite close the single point gaps and the losses ultimately put us in the 15v16 to end the tournament. Facing Glasgow 1s (again!), we pursued vengeance and wanted to end the weekend on a high. Energy was spent, legs were gone, but a victory was found after a game-sealing D from fresher Alice 🤩! Exeter Mixed 2s finished 15th from an initial 20th seeding - a huge effort from the 9 troopers 🫡.
A massive thank you from captains Margs and Jed, you guys all smashed it x

What a weekend for the women’s 1’s 🤩 Coming into the tournament at 1st seed the girls were excited to work hard to stay there especially a woman down the first day . Saturday started off tough with a loss but they didn’t let that set them back and instead smashed every other game ending 2nd in the pool :) Next came the important crossover to end the day and the girls took the W to guarantee top 8.
Day 2 started with fresh legs (Esther finally turned up 🥳) and the girls were ready to crush the quarters. They killed it beating Sheffield 8-4 to progress them to the semi’s where they faced Cambridge. Game couldn’t have gone better with a huge win and even featured a Callaghan by Mils 😝
The girls fought incredibly hard in the final and put everything into it. Sadly Leeds were victorious securing the win, but the team took second place gaining them all a nice shiny, very well deserved, silver BUCS medal 🥈
So proud of the entire team and all the effort they’ve put in 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Achieving Exeter’s best ever national placement undersells the achievement from these gentlemen this weekend. Being only 7 and playing against multiple 10 or 11 man squads with huge sidelines, at a national tournament, the pressure was on the boys both mentally and physically but boy did they stand up and prove why they went in as 1st seed. Cruising the group stage unbeaten on Saturday gave a tough quarter-final match up against Leeds, first game on the Sunday. After going 2-0 up, 5-3 down the boys showed tremendous fight and character to work themselves back into a 6-5 win on universe. After another spectacular game against Loughborough in the semis they fell just short 6-5 in a game that really could’ve gone either way. Coming off the back of their only indoor defeat all season and being 6-4 down against a huge Sandrews team they once against showed character and immense professionalism to grind out a fantastic 7-6 win and Exeter men’s first ever D1 BUCS medal. Every player on the team played their part, contributed all round and trusted each other leading to some nail-biting and ‘one for the fans’ type games. Uriel history made and that is not even ridiculous to say.
Nuff said,
