KEEP YOUR HEAD UP! Tennis Tips to Transform Your Game | Part 3.
James Temple - our Head of Tennis - explains the key to balance and clean contact.
It can be really tempting to follow the ball when it leaves your racket to see where the shot has ended up.
Try keeping your head still as you strike the ball.
You’ll find that you make cleaner contact and maintain balance.

£3,289.15 was raised for @balloons_devon at the Captains Team Competition on Saturday 9th May, thanks to the incredible generosity of members through entry fees, donations and a successful silent auction.
The day welcomed a field of 184 players who embraced the spirit of the event by dressing in blue and red to reflect the Balloons colours, enjoying a fantastic day of golf in warm, sunny conditions with plenty of great shots (and a few not-so-great ones!) shared across the course.
Special thanks go to Vic Fox for marshalling, Gael Salzmann, Suzanne Cornish, Lydia Powlesland and Nasim Hartmann for refreshments, John Parr, Dave Chappell and the greenkeeping team for an outstanding course setup, and Darren Everett and his team for organising the competition.
Congratulations also to the joint winners of the best dressed teams: Steve Sheldon, Seb Rothwell, Darren Thorpe & Neil Moxey, and Sally Rimmer, Caroline Harris, Elizabeth White & Kym Kortland.

We’ve brought a 1929 trophy back to its former glory - thanks to the Golf Committee and the expert craftsmanship of @westcountry_goldsmiths
The Steele Perkins Trophy - first played for in 1929 - is one of the club’s most historic prizes, and has now been expertly restored to celebrate its rich heritage.
Originally contested as an open event before becoming a members’ competition, it remains one of the most challenging formats in golf.
Played in a foursomes knockout format, it demands complete teamwork, with pairs taking alternate shots using just one ball - a true test of strategy, patience and partnership.
The 2025 winners, Charlie Kislingbury and Grant De Shapland, were added to its long history, and thanks to West Country Goldsmiths in Plymouth, the trophy now looks as impressive as the competition it represents.
A proud piece of club history, restored and ready for the next chapter. Whose names will be added in 2026?
CONGRATULATIONS to Cally - our Employee of the Month!
Since joining the Membership Services team her attention to detail, her welcomes and goodbyes, and her care for members and colleagues has been exceptional. 👏
Well done and enjoy your gift voucher!
