a little bit about me! first let’s explain these pictures. the first picture was me in 7th grade, completely lacking any kind of confidence. i realized quickly after being bullied at school that something needed to change. the first picture was my day 1 and you can see in my face that i was not happy with myself and i started all of this to change that. in my 8th grade year covid hit and i had a lot of time at home and i fell into exercise as a hobby because it was something i could do at home. i quickly fell in love with it and over the course of a year i lost 30 pounds and thought i was a god.(second picture) while i did lose a lot of fat, i also lost most of my muscle mass which i didn’t have much of to begin with. this is because throughout that process i developed an unhealthy relationship with food. that relationship continued through my sophomore year. i was so overly conscious of everything i was eating and i was counting calories in a restrictive way and i became obsessed with the number on the scale. i was also playing soccer, lacrosse, and swimming throughout this so i was constantly moving and did not know how to properly fuel myself. my only goal was to be skinny, and yes i lost weight but i was constantly hungry, tired, and overall just miserable. now let’s fast forward to the last picture, i am not perfect in any way and i still struggle with food but i have made so much progress and i now know that food really is fuel. i still keep track of what i eat but i am focusing on my protein intake so i can optimize my muscle growth instead of starve myself and lose weight. i eat intuitively, meaning i dont restrict myself and i listen to my body. i don’t focus on the number on the scale because i know that it really doesn’t mean much because muscle mass, bone density, water weight, etc. have a big impact on that number and it’s not something to measure progress with in my case. i weigh more now than i did in that first picture, meaning i gained all the weight i lost back, but this time most of it was muscle and i now feel good in my body. i now choose to exercise because it makes me feel good and i enjoy it, not as a punishment.
what i ate today in a deficit prioritizing protein!
