My (wo)manuscript The First Third was selected for publishing by @nightboat_books . I am honored and so excited to work with y’all 🖤. It’s about sexuality, friendships, becoming, loneliness, family, illness and concepts of home through deserts and dance floors. It’s very important for me to push back against tropes of non fictional trans writing and trans poetics as inherently radical, connoisseurs of debauchery and co-chairs of the abject. We’re so much more than that and not that special either. It’s about transmuting intense life moments into new love lessons, and it’s about learning to honor, respect and welcome in icons like shame, guilt, desperation, and victimhood for an agonizing tea n biscuits. Decolonize tea time.The British stole it.
We are so much more than the circumstances and realities that impose themselves on us. Thank you to everyone that continues to support me. I’m finally able to submit an application for a work permit and it’s in the mail now on its way to Texas. It’s out of my control. Worrying about whether or not it will get processed given the current situation of everything does not attract negative energy and will not lead to my application not going through. we can’t blame ourselves for worrying and then worry that our worrying will attract more negative energy because none of this is our fault. All we can control is what we can do, for me it was taking one day at a time and arduously working on surrender to get to this point for now, because my life is just getting started. I keep catching myself when I start to say “this has been the most difficult time I’ve ever faced“ because I don’t know if that’s true. I’ve been surviving. To my sisters: we’re so much more than surviving. I’ve been thriving. Like I got through the military in Egypt in 2011/2012 during the revolution it was the most dissociated I’ve ever been in order to get through it and more than ten years later I’ve only just started actively processing that time. I survived being a gay boy in Egypt and I thrived and had a boyfriend and an amazing social (double) life while at the same time losing my sister who decided she cannot love me anymore. To all my sisters: as important as it is to be aware and process what has held us back and scarred us on our journey and keeps trying us, like our families and the communities we cosplayed safety with, we also have to hold on to and equally remember everything else we fucking ate down! I love you all. It’s not over, but it never will be. Respectfully we may be broke, but we’re not poor.
