Jen first discussed being a surrogate for some of our closest friends with me only a few weeks after Alfie was born. Alfie was very young, but he had already changed our lives for the better. The maths seemed simple for Jen and I; 9 months for a lifetime of joy. Of course, it was easy for me to say that – I wasn’t the one that would be going through medical procedures, psych appointments, morning sickness, and major surgery. She had thought of all of this and still didn’t hesitate. But that’s Jen. She is that kind and generous that it would have been out of character not to do something like this.
It's been a privilege to be by her side throughout this process and watch her manage everything with such grace. Jen is one of those rare people that warms your heart and makes you want to be better. She’s made me want to be better (not sure if I’ve lived up to her lofty example though!). Being a surrogate is just the latest example of Jen giving her time, her strength and her warmth with her only intention to bring us all joy.
To Ween and Peachy – thank you for letting us play a small part in your amazing journey with your wonderful boy. We’re so grateful that you trusted us to look after him and can’t wait for him and Alfie to become best friends (given they’re ‘womb-mates’). You and your family (including your little Angus) should be incredibly proud of how you’ve handled everything. You’ve been a great source of strength for Jen and I over these past two years. You guys are going to be the best parents.

From my first rubbish joke about milkos (a type of sweet for the non-Australians!) to our wedding, I’ve grown to love you more and more. You have put up with so much throughout the years; whether it’s listening to my rubbish jokes, moving across the world for me or just letting me watch Gilmore Girls without judgment! You’re the bees knees buddy! The wedding was amazing (best on ground goes jointly to @yaagerbomber and @fergybill ). The marriage will be even better. #jenewen #itsjenewen
Harris Van Beek was truly a great man. Every person that came into contact with Harris was better off for meeting such a gregarious, funny and intelligent individual. I first met Harris when I started working at Nous. He took me under his wing and let me help him with one of his typical 'Harris Projects' - helping more homeless access better legal services. For me this was an incredible project with great positive influence. For Harris it was standard - he had done this dozens of times before, such was his generosity. I wasn't alone in such an experience - everyone that worked with Harris was touched by the projects he undertook.
Throughout my time at Nous I enjoyed and learned a little from every little Harris interaction; whether it was talking politics or trading secrets on colourful socks. It was one of my greatest pleasures getting to know Harris and call him my friend.
Harris - I'm going to miss your friendship but don't worry I will never tell anyone your secret of where you get your incredible socks.
