America's infrastructure crisis doesn't hit everyone the same way. Over 40 million Americans are water insecure. 39% of US roads are in poor or mediocre condition. The burden is falling hardest on communities that already have the fewest resources to navigate these challenges. That's why our US Community Program (CECorps) exists. We partner with under-resourced communities, nonprofits, municipalities, tribal entities, and even HOAs to provide the pro-bono engineering support they need to unlock federal funding, design solutions that last, and build the capacity to sustain them for the long term. We engineer alongside communities, so they can lead their own futures. This Infrastructure Week, swipe through to see how and why we do this work. 🔗 Learn more at ewb-usa.org and stay tuned later this week to learn more about how key services we provide, like preliminary engineering reports, have a major impact on improving lives. #InfrastructureWeek #CivilEngineering #WaterAccess #USCommunityProgram #EngineersWithoutBorders #ProBono #Infrastructure

Most organizations show up to build something. Fewer come back to ask how it's holding up. Two years. Five years. Ten years after a project is complete, what's still working, and what isn't? That's the question our team is asking right now in Kenya. Carrie, Sonrisa, Bruce, Habert, and Leshan are visiting over a dozen communities with completed EWB-USA projects to hear directly from the people who live with the outcomes every day. This trip is about more than just celebrating our victories; it is about listening and learning from the communities we've been fortunate to call our partners. We want to know what's held up, what's struggled, and what we can do better, so that every project we start from here forward is built on what we've learned from the ones that came before. For us, this is what sustainable development actually looks like. Follow along this summer, we'll be sharing what the team saw, heard, and learned in the communities that have been living with this work long after we left.

This Mother's Day, we're sharing a few stories from the mothers who inspire our work every day. From Guatemala to Bolivia to Malawi, the communities EWB-USA partners with remind us that access to clean water, safe sanitation, and reliable infrastructure isn't just a technical problem — it's the difference between a mother worrying and a mother thriving. Honor the mother in your life by supporting mothers everywhere. Dedicate a gift in her name and send her an EWB-USA Mother's Day e-card. Safe water shouldn't be a privilege — but for over 2 million Americans, access to running water and sanitation still isn't a given. EWB-USA is proud to endorse the National Roadmap to Close the U.S. Water Gap, a bold sector-wide plan to change that by 2040. This week, our U.S. programs team is in D.C. with Vessel and 130+ partner organizations at the U.S. WASH Convening — working alongside the coalition to make this vision a reality. Closing the water gap is achievable. We're committed to doing our part. 💧 Learn more → vesselcollective.us #WaterAccess #CleanWater #WASH #EWBusa #Infrastructure #WaterEquity #Engineers #SocialImpact @vessel.wash

⚡ What is a resiliency hub? As communities in Puerto Rico continue to face frequent outages and an aging energy system, new solutions are taking shape. A resiliency hub is a community-centered space designed to provide stability when it is needed most. These hubs are: 🔌 Equipped with renewable energy systems 🏠 Designed to offer safe gathering spaces 💧 Able to support access to essential resources 📡 Built to maintain critical services during outages and disasters In short, they help ensure that even when the grid goes down, communities are not left without support. At EWB-USA, we are working alongside communities across Puerto Rico to help make these hubs a reality. Each project is shaped by local needs and priorities, creating solutions that are both resilient and community-driven. This graphic highlights just a few examples of how these hubs are being implemented across the island. Because resilience is not just about infrastructure. It is about people having the resources, safety, and support they need to navigate uncertainty.

Our mothers used to come in and give birth without water. At Irundu Healthcare Center in Uganda, that was the reality, until EWB-USA partnered with the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau and EWB-East Africa (@ewb.ea ) to rebuild the water system. Now, mothers arrive knowing clean water will be there. Nurses can sanitize. Babies are welcomed safely. And 200 children next door have access to clean drinking water, too. This Mother's Day, honor the mother in your life by standing with mothers around the world. Dedicate a gift to EWB-USA in her name, and send her a Mother's Day e-card. Yes, that's our CEO holding a lightsaber. No, we're not sorry. 🪐⚔️ At our national conference earlier this year, Boris stood in front of hundreds of engineers, students, and community partners and reminded us that the Rebel Alliance isn't just a movie metaphor. It's what we're actually trying to build. A network of people who show up for each other. Who refuse to let distance, funding cuts, or long odds convince them that small efforts don't matter. Who believe that coordinated action (chapters, professionals, partners, and communities, flying together) is how real change gets made. We're not in it for the glory. We're in it because there are real communities drinking unsafe water, facing climate shocks, and navigating broken systems right now. And because none of us can fix that alone. May the 4th be with you, and may it remind you why we're in this together. 🌍 💫 See a quote that speaks to you? Send it to the Star Wars-loving, world-changing engineer in your life. They probably already know they're part of the Alliance, but it doesn't hurt to remind them. #MayThe4thBeWithYou #EWB #BuildingTomorrowTogether #EngineersWithoutBorders

💧 Chapter Spotlight: Miami University (Ohio) In May 2024, a team of students from Miami University of Ohio traveled to Hindiro, Rwanda for the next phase of the Rugendabari water project. Working alongside local contractors and community members, the team helped construct a 20,000-liter stone masonry storage tank, transforming an excavated hillside into a structure designed to serve the community for years to come. They also supported the replacement of an aging water tank with a larger, more reliable system, helping ensure access keeps pace with growing demand. But beyond the infrastructure, the experience was about partnership. Students worked side-by-side with community members, gaining a deeper understanding of what it means to design with and not for a community. As one student reflected, the experience reinforced that engineering is not just about building systems, but about building trust. The impact of this work continues to grow and was recently recognized nationally with the NCEES Engineering & Surveying Education Award. 👏 Congratulations to the Miami University Chapter on this achievement. @ewb.miamioh #EWBUSA #ChapterSpotlight #EngineeringForImpact

⚡ Puerto Rico’s energy system is under pressure, and communities are feeling the impact. Recent data highlights the challenges: 📉 Infrastructure Grade: D- overall, F for energy 💡 Cost of Electricity: ~22¢/kWh (nearly double the U.S. average) 🌱 Renewable Energy: Only ~2% of the grid ⛈ System Vulnerability: Aging infrastructure and limited investment After Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico experienced the longest blackout in U.S. history, with many residents going nearly a year without power. Today, even minor storms can lead to widespread outages. These challenges affect daily life, economic stability, and community resilience. ➡️ Stay tuned next week to learn how EWB-USA is working alongside communities in Puerto Rico to build resiliency hubs and support more reliable, sustainable energy access. #EnergyAccess #Resilience #EWBUSA #PuertoRico

⏳ The countdown is on We’re just 40 days away from the launch of EWB-USA’s first Community Health Summer Institute in Guatemala. Earlier this month, staff members Megan Lavery and Carrie Ellis were hard at work in Denver, preparing for the program: assembling toolkits and organizing materials that will support participants in the field. These behind-the-scenes moments are a reminder that impactful programs start long before arrival, through careful planning, collaboration, and preparation. We’re excited to bring this new institute to life and to support participants as they build skills while working alongside communities. Stay tuned as we get closer to kickoff. #EWBUSA #CommunityHealth #EngineeringForImpact
