Evora derives from the Celtic word for yew, reflecting the hospice’s roots in Newry – a word that also means yew. So, as part of the reveal of our new name, it was important for us to take a moment to reflect on our rich history by planting a yew tree at St John’s House in Newry. Many of our nursing team were on hand for this symbolic moment as we set down roots in the heart of the community.

🤍💙 Ingram Memorial Cup Win💙🤍 A brilliant day for our 2013 squad at the John Ingram Memorial Tournament in Rathfriland. The boys produced an outstanding team performance from start to finish, lifting the trophy after going unbeaten throughout the group stages. There were goals along the way from Conall O’Hagan, Jude Hegarty and Ryan Morgan, with every player contributing to a disciplined and hard working display. It was also fantastic to see new signings James McComb and Rudhan Meehan settle into the group so quickly, both putting in energetic performances and showing the quality they will bring to the squad. Newry then came through a tough semi final against hosts Rathfriland, with a composed finish from Conall O’Hagan proving the difference in a tight game. The boys saved their best for the final, producing a clinical 4 0 win over Loughgall. Eoghan Havern opened the scoring with a brilliant header after great work from birthday boy Daithi McLoughlin. Conall O’Hagan added two more to cap off an excellent day, earning a well deserved Player of the Tournament award, before Rudhan Meehan sealed the win in style with a superb long range strike. A massive thank you to the organisers for a fantastic tournament and for giving the boys such a well run day of football. Congratulations to the full squad, who welcomed their new teammates brilliantly and represented Newry City with humility, pride and togetherness from start to finish. A brilliant achievement and a great way to end the season.

“Talking about what matters.” During Dying Matters Week, Rosy — one of our dedicated social workers here at Evora Hospice — sat down with Emily, our Patient & Family Services Team Manager, to share what’s truly important to her. These conversations aren’t always easy, but they’re powerful. When we open up about our values, our fears, and the things that give our lives meaning, we create space for deeper understanding and better care.
