Showing: ESCAPE ROOM Director: Dominic Browne Piece Vision: My piece displays an interlinked contemporary and hiphop piece, taking inspiration from Taylors Short Film on the multidimensionality of heartbreak, self-guidance and love. Using the “narrations” that act as a primer for each subsequent track on the ESCAPE ROOM album, I’ll be selling my condensed version of the short film/album’s story through alternative r&b/pop songs that layer the energy of each narration that is chosen. What do you love about Evolution? There is so much power in our diversity. We have such amazing characters on this team with such multi-dimensional facets of experience that help drive the collective yearn for a performance rooted in community and care for one another. I found a home in EVO. When I think of EVO I think about the “in between”. When your life is moving by so fast and you feel like you never get a time to breathe, especially at a school like ours, I love showing up to practice with the knowledge that I am leaving everything at the door for the sake of participating in this community and genuinely enjoying one of the few spaces that promote growth and a shared belief in taking up space. Showing: NOT a club love story Director: Juli Piece Vision: My piece follows a storyline all about choosing you no matter how sexy someone is or how much someone wants you. We start out by being part of joseline’s cabaret, the girls have been auditioning through our practices to be a part of the cabaret. The cabaret performs at the club, serving club siren, a truly alluring performance. Someone in the crowd falls in love with the puerto rican princess (me), BUT she only wants to twerk on a boat. She’s only saluting to herself and the money. You do NOT find love in the club, you find it in yourself. The person who falls in love with the puerto rican princess does thier ONE performance because we’re not going to let the distraction get the shine BRRRRRRRTPP your done! then the queens step out and BOOM its a whole nother show about me and my girls stepping out and having a BLAST at the club with JUST the girls. a message to the girls that you can have fun withOUT the distraction of a lustful eye watching you. What do you love about Evolution? evolution is my family. it’s literally everything i have known in my ENTIRE college career. and usually when a place feels familiar you only go back there BECAUSE it’s familiar, but with evo its been my one true home. i love going into a practice and forgetting EVERY.SINGLE.THING. that happened the day of or literally everything of my life. it’s the place where i can see everyone and even if we only have conversations then i know that’s my family. evo is truly such a beautiful space to be in, i would not have it any other way. evolution has helped me become more confident as a dancer and also a person. the confidence boost i get after every show is the best part. i’ve been able to hone in on my leadership skills and learn what it takes to lead a group of almost 50 people to success. producing an entire show has built my organizational skills. i’ve just really been able to grow as a leader but also an individual. Showing: NEW MAGIC WAND Director: Ashley Aparicio Piece Vision: This piece is inspired by one of my favorite movies. I tried to make the piece as “whimsical” as possible since Harry Potter is all about magic and adventure. I also wanted this dance to be very energetic and powerful so hopefully everyone gets to see all the strong and confident energy from the people on stage. What do you love about Evolution? I love the community in Evolution. I feel so much love every time I am at practice and although it can get very serious during the semester, the people there have taught me that we are all a family, and that we always need to give it our 100% on stage. Evolution has always been very understanding and communicative with their dancers and the people on the team have been one of the most amazing and talented people I’ve ever met. I just love seeing how everyone gets so creative with their dances and I just love being with everyone on stage and feeling the energy altogether. When I first auditioned for Evolution, I was extremely scared because it was the first time I ever auditioned for something. But over time, Evolution gave me the confidence to choreograph my first piece and overall just be more comfortable with myself. Without Evolution, I would have never broken out of my shell. Showing: Burlesque Director: Ashley Piece Vision: My piece is heavily inspired and influenced by the movie Burlesque. This is one of the movies that helped me find comfort in feeling sexy without needing to impress anyone, simply feeling confident in my own skin. I love dancing in this style because it makes me feel beautiful and empowered in my own body. What I Love About EVO: I am not going to lie, EVO has helped me through some really dark times. This team has become a family that has allowed me to grow into the person I am today. I cannot wait to see what EVO has in store for next semester, but I know that in the three semesters I have been here, I have not regretted a single moment. Love you, EVO. Showing: Who’s Dat Girl Director: Mulan Piece Vision: Let’s see...rather than a specific movie or even genre, I wanted my piece to encapsulate the energy of every single powerful female character I’ve admired. Action movies and thrillers have always been something I’m drawn to and I love how the women in these movies are able to showcase their femininity as a strength and even a weapon. It’s meant to be fun, energetic, seductive (a little dangerous too) and all the things you want in a strong feminine character! What do you love about Evolution? Evolution has truly created a family for me here on campus and I get so genuinely excited to dance next to other people with the same passion. Even though our campus is small, it can be so easy to feel lost or isolated. Evo has created a space that makes it so easy to connect with others and see how so many different experiences can be brought together under one common love for dance. The best way that Evo has changed me is by helping me realize that I actually don’t have to change myself at all to be valued or to be seen. It has pushed me to grow as a dancer, friend, and team member without losing the essence of who I am. I’m still growing but I’m no longer afraid to take up space while doing it. Showing: Behind The Scenes 🎞️🎞️ Director: Ali Piece Vision: Piece Vision: For my piece I wanted my dancers to express themselves in unconventional ways. My piece is about pushing one’s self to the limit, and knowing that every space is a space to dance! What do you love about Evoultion?: I love all the people around me and the vibrant energy! I genuinely love dancing with everyone and I learn something new every time I’m around my EVO family!!! I became more responsible. As EVO requires dedication and organization, I began to learn to grow, and become responsible in every aspect! Showing: slug! Director: Adia Piece Vision: My piece has a strong rom com themes with super fun, silly, romantic, and yearnful vibes. The energy of my piece is closely inspired by one of my favorite movies, the Princess Bride, arguably on of the best rom-coms of all time!!! I have had the idea for this modern interpretation of the film for about 2 years and have loved to see it come to life, embodied through my beautiful dancers. I love the song Slug, by one of my favorite artists, Matt Champion, and its amazing vibes so much that I named my piece after it :))) What do you love about Evoultion?: I love love love Evo, not just for the fun choreography, performances, etc. but because of the amazingly supportive community. I have never felt alone with Evo even in a place starkly different from my homeland of Los Angeles, California. Evo was the first dance crew I’ve been a part of that was truly, deeply supportive and just so much fun, rather than toxic, full of criticism and competition like I was used to as a ballet dancer. #thanksevo!!!!!!! For most of the first 17 years of my life, I trained in classical dance styles, with a strong preference for ballet. I felt most comfortable expressing myself within the rigid rules and boundaries of this art form. It was not until I was nearly 18 that I realized what a toll this rather toxic ballet environment was taking on me. Thanks to my 3 super fun semesters with Evo, I have learned that I can truly find peace in a welcoming, non-competitive, uplifting environment. I have learned and improved so much with Evo, in addition to experiencing dance styles, in a comfortable space, that used to strike fear into my heart… like hip-hop 🫣. Showing: Step TF Up Director: Evelyn & Camila Piece Vision: Step TF Up is inspired by the movies Step Up & You Got Served. We aspire for this piece to embody HIGH ENERGY. With a special feature by our very own Moose and dance battles with a few other special guests ;) We end on a HIGHHHH note and make the people JUMP...because, you know......step TF up! What do you love about Evoultion?: We love the community in EVO. Evolution has always been a welcoming of people of all dance styles and experiences. All the fun and the joy comes from meeting new people who bring newer experiences that we can all learn from. Although dance is what brings us together, the people in it are what push us further as students, peers, and future dancers.Being in Evolution has provided a space for us to be authentically ourselves. Showing: Sinners and Avengers Director: Malia Rutherford Piece Vision: Sinners - This piece is inspired by my favorite film from last year, Sinners. A horror set in the early 20th century Mississippi Delta, Sinners is a horror film that centers on themes of race, music, religion, and the development of Black cultures originating in the Southern United States. I wanted this piece to highlight all that I love about this film, especially featuring a scene from the juke joint, where we see the collision and evolution of various diasporas, with an emphasis on the beauty of Black American culture. Avengers - Growing up I loved watching all of the Marvel movies. They hold such a special place in my heart. In my final Evolution piece, I just wanted to have fun! To me, this piece is super nostalgic in both content and song choice, with sections highlighting moments from the first Avengers, to Black Panther, to Endgame. It’s high energy, big, colorful, and a joy to watch and be a part of. It’s a goodbye to my time in Evo that will hopefully leave people smiling (and wanting more...) What do you love about Evoultion?: I love everything about Evolution. The people, the energy in rehearsals, the adrenaline onstage, the laughs backstage, the choreography process, and the smiles on everyone’s faces only scratch the surface. This is such a special space with so many special people. I would be nothing without the dancers that came before me, and the talented Evo members yet to come. As a graduating senior, departing choreographer and Co-President, I’m overwhelmed with the love poured into and seeping from Evolution. Of my Middlebury experience, this will be the part I miss the most. Thank you for four amazing years of green grapes, jumping jacks, and unforgettable moments. Evolution has helped mold me into a more compassionate leader, relaxed dancer, and inspired creative. I’ve met people here I never would have met otherwise, who have helped shape my artistry and perspective on the world. I feel most loved, comfortable, and seen when surrounded by my Evolution family, and am forever grateful for the person and dancer I became in this Crew. Sneak Peek: hey auntie

Showing: The Purge 👹 Directed by: Alannis and Ayanna Piece Vision: We were inspired by the movie The Purge to make a piece with a serious, suspenseful vibe. The interactive choreography and constantly changing formations emulate the action of the movie: the chasing, fighting, choosing allies and watching them betray you. In this dance, it’s everyone for themselves, and no one is safe. What Do You Love About Evolution? We love the community we have found in Evo. We can feel the love and support from everyone, and it’s great to know that we have so many friendly faces not only in rehearsal, but in the dining halls, class, gym, and anywhere else on campus.
