In the quiet pride of my father's eyes I remember who I am. Bahia, Brazil 2019

“cripa, blones, ruedas, roca” drowning out the sound of the speakers of the vast amount of little fruit and vegetable carts advertising their promotions. a man lying facedown on the concrete ground with no shoes on. little children playing tag, swiftly jumping over big sheets laying all over the floor presenting everything you could possibly think of from old kitchen knives to bicycle parts, belts, remote controls and stolen phones. “my friend, you wanna buy some coke?”. a woman inhaling some glue sitting next to a shopping cart serving as a bbq, roasting chorizo. rows and rows of second hand clothes being sold under a gigantic bridge in the middle of the street while big busses are rushing by honking every 5 seconds. pure chaos. I buy a fresh orange juice as I keep walking, smiling at confused faces who probably think I must be lost. “mona, déjame envitarte a una fría”. three older men playing cards surrounded by used children’s toys while another one is sleeping on a big mountain of clothes. I buy a pair of adidas sneakers for two bucks which I don’t think actually exist in this kind of design. a little girl taking my hand as she leads me to a man selling ice cream. I buy her one as her mom tells her to smile for a picture. she tells me i’m beautiful. I tell her she is too. it smells like fries, marijuana and urine. I sit down with a group of guys pouring me a shot of their homemade aguardientes. we talk for a bit as they introduce me to the gang. some of their friends are giving a little boy a haircut by the side of the road while the others are trying to convince a client that the iphone chargers they are selling aren’t fake. “we take care of you here, mona. don’t worry. nobody will rob you here. this is community and we don’t want no cops here.” this is prado. my heart is here. it’s the beauty in the mess. the perseverance. the lack of pretension. the lack of pride. as rough as it gets, as real as it gets. if you’ve been to prado you’ve seen it all. #colombiano #fujistreet #lacalleesnuestracolectivo #medellincolombia #fujixseries #streetdocumentary

@jacobsalguero with his firstborn. on fatherhood. an ongoing project documenting fathers and their children around the world. since the passing of my own dad this project has become more and more meaningful to me. I've noticed how over the past decade I have often felt naturally drawn to portraying fathers walking out their true calling with their children, which somehow feels like a bandaid to this broken world. the older I get the more I realize the importance it played having a very present and involved father. one that cared very uniquely about me and my siblings, representing the love of my heavenly father so well here on earth.

Criando arte com o monstro @chinagrau_244 Memories from last year in Rio. Probably one of the most impactful images for me personally. I’d met Igoor before in a different neighborhood, controlled by another faction. Seeing him pull up with his friends on the island had me surprised for a moment because I knew that if it wasn't for the event, this would be pretty much a no go zone for all of them. “Grau sem facção” is real. These events make space where there usually is none. Grau connects and seeing that really moved me.. Full project now live via #244nãoécrime #244éoqueliga #grauéarte

some favorites from brazil for the sake of the international day of photography. the archive keeps growing. each photograph attached to a specific memory, a song in your ear, a feeling on your skin, a smell in your nose. from the serra in belo horizonte to the coastline of são paulo, the kids at morro do adeus and in the city of God, from hanging out on the rooftops with friends in santo amaro to conversation over cold beers in salvador, bahia. connection has always been the goal and always will be. connection with people, connection with nature, connection with God. #everydaybrasil

a small collection of memories that made my heart feel much lighter during one of the toughest years so far. first pic was shot exactly one year ago on my birthday. wild to think about all the things that can happen in 12 months. 🤎
