Moose Boy - from the Nokia 5190 cellphone
-
I've been hunting for this doodle for a few years now, since 2022. I had found a source online that said it existed on a chip inside the Nokia 5190, so I went ahead and bought one to take apart. I ended up opening 15 different parts on this phone looking for the chip, but I never found it.
-
Fast forward to now, and I saw a video from @exciting__electronics where they opened up a really cool looking crystal oscillator. On the chip inside that oscillator was a doodle that looked very similar to Moose boy. This made me take a second look at the Nokia 5190, and I just so happened to have a bunch of 5190 scrap PCBs. I noticed that the oscillators on some were taller, so I opened one up.
-
As it turns out, Moose Boy is on this chip! So really it comes down to the luck of the draw if you are going to get an old enough Nokia 5190 that has this chip on it. I'm glad I can finally cross this one off my list :)

New #PCBcoins and wafers available now!
-
(Repost) - the original video I posted had audio added from Instagram. That audio was removed from Instagram, which means the entire video gets muted. This is a re-upload with just my audio.
-
(Original) - Head on over to my website store (linked in bio) to pick up some new PCBcoins and silicon wafers! In the store, in addition to the 2020 and 2021 editions, youāll find the new 2022, 100K edition PCBcoin, and also a redone version of the original 2019 PCBcoin. The coins are all printed by @pcbway
-
The store also includes three new 5ā silicon wafers variants, and one 8ā silicon wafer variant. Stock is limited on these, so donāt wait if you see something you like! One quick note about the 8ā wafer is that while it looks very beautiful, they all do have some amount of scratches on them. Please see the photos on the website for more information.
-
The profits for sales of coins and wafers all go towards future content. This might include purchasing more components and things to look at under the microscope, workspace supplies, and any workspace upgrades.
-
If you donāt want the PCBcoins or silicon wafers and still want to support the work Iām doing here, you can always make a donation via ko-fi (also linked in my bio). I plan to add hi-res photos to ko-fi that will be available for download in the future, so stay tuned for that news!
-
As always, I appreciate everyoneās support!

Sonic on a chip š¦š
-
Let me know if you seen this video before š.
-
The original version was posted on Instagram a year or so ago, but I "remastered" it and posted it to TikTok a few months ago. It was pretty popular over there, and has since spread everywhere, including Twitter, Reddit, and even here on Instagram. I figured since it's my video, I might as well post it here too š.
-
This part is the ADSP-2181, a Digital Signal Processor from Analog Devices. What makes it particularly special, if you hadn't noticed, is that it includes a chip art, or doodle, of Sonic the Hedgehog.

If you want to see the original posts with more pictures and information about the part, click on the #CCU0124 hashtag š.

I have no idea who made this unmarked metal can.
-
Inside is a hybrid ceramic circuit with multiple discrete components. Unfortunately, there isnāt any information on the components inside either. The parts inside are certainly interesting though, and would be pretty straightforward to trace out.
Darth Vader Silicon wafer
-
If you search for "Darth Vader Silicon wafer" on Ebay you might see the listing for this wafer from the seller that I bought it from, if there are still any left!
-
The chip on this wafer is designed by onsemi, but I wasnt able to find a datahseet for it.
What's inside a Lego SMART Brick?
-
I got my hands on one of Lego's new SMART Bricks so that I could take a look at this silicon chips inisde. It's surprising just how much technology they were able to cram in here. The full teardown video is up over on YouTube.

Microscopic Bicycles
-
I picked up this set of wafers from Ebay, and there was a surprise waiting inside. These wafers contain a series of test patterns, many of which are slight variations of eachother. I'm lead to believe these are either from a class on silicon wafer design, or perhaps a research lab.
-
On the wafers themselves is a line of five bicycles, each made using a different mask. I'd like to know if there was any significance to why they chose bikes instead of something else.

Iām currently unemployed
-
Being let go from my job was not on my bingo card for this year. Iām grateful for the time and experience I had at my previous job. This video isnāt meant to criticize anyone, just to share my own journey and next steps.
-
As an upside, I now have a lot of extra time that I can devote towards making more chip videos!
-
Overall Iām optimistic about the future and looking forward to what comes next.
A very sad panda lives inside this 25 year old Intel digital camera
-
I saw this image sensor over on the SiliconPrawn website, where I believe it was first documented. There it was noted that this is likely the S.H. Panda from South Park, and I would have to agree. After doing some digging, I was able to find that the camera this sensor was in is the Intel Easy PC camera, so I picked one up for myself.
-
The image sensor in this camera is the PB-0100-5 from Photobit. The sensor contains just over 100,000 pixels, arranged as an array of 352x288 pixels. This resolution is slightly better than 240p, and the camera was capable of 30FPS video.
-
Photobit was created back in 1995 by Dr Eric Fossum after he worked to develop image sensors for NASAās Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Thereās a lot of good information on this sensor if you search for āPhotobit PB-0100ā. For me, the third hit down is a really informative presentation on the technology behind these sensors on Dr. Fossumās website. Iād highly recommend checking it out!

Can you solve this silicon riddle?
-
I recently found this silicon doodle riddle during a photoshoot for a New York Times article that was being done about silicon doodles. I didn't know at the time that this was inside, and I was very surprised to see it!
-
I was recently featured in a story that @emmettlindner was writing about silicon doodles. He ended up putting together a great article over on The New York Times, with some amazing photographs from @_lyndonfrench_ . Iām glad I had the opportunity to share about silicon doodles!
-
The Q2334I is made by Qualcomm and is a Dual Direct Digital Synthesizer used to generate low-noise sine wave outputs. I had my suspicions that this part might have something inside, given that another Qualcomm chip, the Q1650N, had quite a few. I actually had the chance to speak with one of the people who worked on the Q1650N and he said that there are many other Qualcomm designs that have doodles, so maybe I shouldnāt be too surprised. I havenāt asked about this part yet, but I wonder if we can figure out this riddle for ourselves.

This module is capable of 1.6 Tbps throughput over fiber optic cables.
-
A PIC is a Photonic Integrated Circuit, one of which is included inside this module. A traditional Integrated Circuit uses electrons to process data. In contrast, a Photonic Integrated Circuit uses light.
-
Photons emitted from integrated lasers are used for transmitting data, while photodiodes are used on the receiving end. The photons pass through many different circuits in the PIC that manipulate the optical signals in different ways.
-
The module seen here was sent over from bjenkins192 on Ebay, who has a store with some interesting components for sale. If you want to see more of this part, I'd recommend checking out the 4K video on YouTube where I've also linked a lot of the documentation that I found when I was researching about this part.
-
You can also check out the microscopic photos of both of the chips over on the Siliconprawn website, where you can zoom in at your leisure.
