The “dog days” of summer refer to the sweltering, sultry, steamy, sticky, part of the season when heat and humidity peak. Historically, this term originated from the period following the heliacal rising of Sirius, the so called “Dog Star” which ancient Hellenistic astrologers linked to intense heat, drought, sudden storms, lethargy, fever, and even madness. Today, the phrase simply marks the hottest, most oppressive days of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Perfect for a night of dancing.
