✨THE STORY NOTE - YETI: When Your Customer Becomes The Story ✨ YETI doesn’t really market coolboxes (though the sell very cool and very expensive ones) … it markets a way of life. This week’s Story Note explores how one outdoor brand built extraordinary loyalty not by centring products, but by centring people and why the strongest storytelling often feels less like advertising and more like documentary. 🎙️ THE STORY COACH Episode 3: You Don’t Need to Be Everywhere. Here’s Where to Focus Instead. Feeling overwhelmed by marketing advice and the pressure to show up on every platform? In this episode of The Story Coach, Karen explores one of the biggest misconceptions in modern marketing … the idea that you need to be everywhere, all the time, in order to grow. The reality? You don’t need more platforms, you just need more clarity around where your audience is, where your strengths lie, and what you can realistically sustain. In this episode, Karen shares: • why trying to do everything often leads to burnout and inconsistency • the three questions that will help you decide where to focus • how to choose platforms that actually suit you and your audience • why consistency matters more than constant visibility • real examples from building KA Equestrian, Fossoway Stables and Everything & Nothing If your marketing has been feeling noisy, scattered or overwhelming lately, this episode is a reminder that you don’t need to be everywhere, you just need to show up clearly and consistently in the right places. A small reminder that not every campaign needs fireworks. Sometimes it’s just a really good song, a thoughtful story, the right people hearing it… and a little persistence. Last night, The Heart Remembers by Niall McCabe was played on the BBC Radio 2 Folk Show with Mark Radcliffe. We’ve spoken a lot recently about the power of restraint in storytelling …  leaving space, trusting the audience, allowing discovery to do some of the work and this release has been a lovely example of that in practice. A quiet song, a close circle of collaborators and a campaign built more on feeling than noise. Proof that sometimes, the stories that travel furthest are the ones that don’t shout the loudest. 🎧 The Heart Remembers - out now. ~ Everything & Nothing ~

✨PR Pro Tip 15✨ Your audience needs repetition, not constant reinvention. One of the biggest mistakes small businesses make is assuming people are tired of hearing about what they do. In reality, most people haven’t fully understood it yet. Good PR often means repeating the same core message in different ways, across different moments, over a long period of time. The brands we remember are usually the ones who stayed consistent long enough for the message to stick. You don’t need a brand new identity every month, what you need is clarity, consistency and patience. This Week’s Action … Ask three people outside your business what they think you’re known for. If their answers are wildly different, your messaging needs tightened. ~ Everything & Nothing ~

Instagram appears to have carried out another major purge of fake and inactive accounts this week, with creators, celebrities and brands reporting sudden drops in followers overnight. On one level, this is just a tech story but on another, it feels really quite symbolic. For years, social media has rewarded the appearance of influence. Bigger numbers became shorthand for credibility, whether the engagement behind them was genuine or not. Buying followers and artificially enhanced engagement is not new - back in my blogging days it was rife - but what is new is that audiences are getting smarter and platforms are beginning to realise that trust matters more than inflated metrics. A smaller audience that genuinely listens, responds and cares will always be more valuable than a larger audience built on performance alone which is why we keep coming back to story not as decoration or merely marketing language but as the thing that creates real connection in the first place. Good storytelling travels because people carry it with them and bots can’t do that. So, be proud of your small audience, show up for them and take heart that integrity and authenticity is being championed right now. ~ Everything & Nothing ~

Silence doesn’t always mean no but I t often means busy. A gentle follow-up after 5–7 days is appropriate and professional. Keep it short, be courteous and add value if possible. Persistence (without pressure) is part of the process. Action: Review one unanswered pitch and draft a simple, respectful follow-up email today. ~ Everything & Nothing ~

If your story isn’t travelling, it’s rarely a visibility problem … I t’s usually a clarity one. These are the principles we come back to again and again when shaping stories for creative people, organisations and brands. Simple, yes. But not always easy. Save this for when you need it 😉 ~ Everything & Nothing ~
