Buriganga River is among the most polluted rivers globally, with more than 60,000 cubic metres of toxic waste dumped daily into its waters by the city. Video : đ¸ #mominphoto
50-year-old Norma Cabanillas lives in the mining city Cerro de Pasco. She is one of the hundreds of mothers in the city whose children suffer from high levels of heavy metals in their bodies. Cerro de Pasco is the epicenter of mining activity in Peru and one of the most polluted places in the world.
From Marco Garro's wider story âQuiulacochaâ on the impact of mining on health in Cerro de Pasco. The project uses polluted waters in the production of the images to reflect the unseen health impacts the city faces.

Itâs strange how such familiar places look completely different with snow and ice! The 2ând photo is at night with the light pollution from Gothenburg to the east.

The Adirondack Mountains are made of very hard rock, which breaks down very slowly into soilâat a rate of one new inch every 500 years or so. Because the region was punished for so long during the 20th Century and early 21st Century by acid rain, the existing soils have been depleted of the alkaline chemicals needed to withstand new pollution.
So, it is distressing to see smokestack pollution on the rise again, after the Adirondack Council, NRDC and countless others worked so hard for so long to bring the problem under control. This is only the most recent example of the current administrationâs reckless behavior toward clean air and greenhouse gases.
This recklessness comes as we are finally seeing the rewards of 40 years of struggle to get acid rain under control. Thousands of lakes and ponds across the Adirondack Park are showing signs of recovery from pollution that had left many of them devoid fish and other aquatic life. Many were so acidic and dead, they were as clear as gin...

Smoke billows from stacks as men push a tricycle through a neighborhood next to a coal-fired power plant in northern Shanxi province.
The region is the leading producer of coal in China, with annual production exceeding 300 million tonnes. Air pollution is estimated to contribute to around 17 percent of all deaths in China, and a heavy dependence on burning coal for energy has made China the source of nearly a third of the worldâs CO2 emissions.

The Industrial revolution has changed our world; it has helped human civilization make progress by leaps and bounds. With modern technology we can dream of achieving the impossible. Factories and industries have shaped our community and way of living. Along with this boon we have also had to deal with the hindrances it brings to the natural world. Industrial pollution has been one important aspect that all nations have to deal with. Air pollution, noise pollution, water pollution, toxic wastes are to name just a few. Not only humans but the whole ecosystem is at risk of being contaminated and with the advent of industries life threatening diseases are also on the rise.
