You’ve seen Fern’s Bucket Bag, but have you seen Fern’s Crossbody? She’s a sweet little crossbody with a tie top and lots of pockets inside and out! The tie top keeps the interior items secure, yet leaves room to reach inside to grab a phone or wallet without untying it. This is a great pattern to use your fun cotton prints, textured wovens or dyed fabrics (like those from @thunderbirdfarmpa )! The tie top gives them a chance to shine! How does it differ from the original pattern? The crossbody is a little smaller, has a tie top closure and includes more pockets. The lining is not removable, so no zippers to fiddle with! The pattern for Fern’s Crossbody can be found on our website! It’s meant to accompany the original pattern, so you’ll find it’s very reasonably priced. Grab your copy today through the link in our bio and give your customers (or yourself) the spring bag of their dreams! #bagmakersofinstagram #bagsewingpatterns #sewingpatterns #bucketbag

What a fun week of sewing last week was! By the end of the sew-along I had four completed Ivy Clutches! Here are my thoughts and takeaways from last week: 1. Spreading the making process across 5 days was a nice change of pace. It gave me a daily goal to work toward that didn’t feel overwhelming or rushed. I was able to slow down and enjoy the process! 2. Having a smaller fabric stash was a great creativity challenge. I rediscovered fabrics I’d forgotten about and cut into others I’ve been hoarding away! 3. While on the note of creativity - it was deeply satisfying for both my mind and my wallet to create beautiful items from things I already had! I was tempted to order more hardware, but I really challenged myself to use what I had and I’m glad I did! 4. I was reminded that just a little progress each day can move you toward your goal. I had pretty limited time to sew last week, but breaking the task up into smaller chunks moved me toward my goal! 5. Sewing live with Gena @thunderbirdfarmpa was super fun and not daunting at all!! If you missed the sew-along and would like to give it a go, there is a link in my bio to a blog post outlining what the sew-along is and the schedule I used! You can also find the Ivy Clutch pattern on our website! #ivyclutch #myclutchstash #bagmakersofinstagram #sewingpattern

A low effort, cozy, stash busting sew-along is coming your way! If you’ve been looking for an excuse to dig into your stash or have been trying to sew more intentionally this season - this is the sew-along for you! Starting next week, November 10th we will be sewing a small batch of clutches using our Ivy Clutch pattern. The pattern is beginner friendly, domestic machine friendly and requires very little fabric - perfect for stash-busting! Utilizing fabrics from your stash helps reduce waste while strengthening your creativity muscles. We shared a few ideas we have for our batch in yesterday’s blog post, which you can find linked in our bio! Check out the post linked in our bio for all the details, or follow us to stay in the loop via Instagram Story. We hope you will join in the fun and create community with us through the sew-along! You can also find the pattern on our website (link also in the bio). #ivyclutchpattern #sewalong #bagmakersofinstagram #sewyourstash #MyClutchStash

Do you need a good challenge to flex your creative muscles? Maybe you’ve been feeling uninspired lately when it comes to creating. I may have just the thing! Actually, @carolinalittlestitches might have just the thing for you. She has put out the call to create one thing this week from thrifted, refashioned or stash materials. When I saw her post about it, it was if she was reading my mind! I had already begun a project where I had rummaged through my craft supplies and stash fabric to create something new. (Which will turn into something new for you!) I generally don’t keep a very large stash of fabrics to pull from, so challenging myself to find things to mix and match from my stash can sometimes take a little extra imagination. I’m so glad I’ve taken on this challenge though, because digging into my stash of forgotten fabrics has reignited my creative spark! Will you make something new this week using thrifted, refashioned or stash materials? Even if you aren’t able to finish this week - just start! Comment below the project you’re going to start or have already started! #sewslowwithcls

I know we’re making bags for spring right now… but with summer approaching, what are you finding your customers are gravitating towards? Mini backpacks or slings? 🤔

I asked ChatGPT to write a caption from the perspective of our newest bag and it was pretty hilarious… so I’m sharing it with you. Because if you’re like me, you can relate! 🤭 “Hi, I’m Fern’s Bucket Bag, and I’m here to support your wildly ambitious crafting lifestyle. Started a new project before finishing the last three? Love that for you. That’s why I come with a completely removable drawstring lining — so you can cinch up your current WIP, pop it out, and swap in your latest yarn fling with zero guilt. I don’t judge. I just hold your yarn, your snacks, and your unrealistic sense of time management with love. Let’s make all the things. Or at least start them.” Might be a fun way to market the FBB’s you make for your customers. 🥰

January is finally over! January is finally over? After the release of my last pattern, The Scout, I decided January was going to be a slower month for me. Typically, I’d immediately throw myself into creating the next pattern for you all - but if I’m being honest, getting a pattern ready to release in two sizes was a bigger undertaking than I expected. By the time the pattern launched I was pretty burned out. 😴 At the start of January my little one started the most difficult sleep regression so far. Neither of us have been sleeping a lot pretty much all of January, which hasn’t left me with a lot of energy during the day to put toward business growth. At the beginning of January I set two goals for myself: - Start posting more educational type content to Instagram - Write & release The High-Profit Margin Guide for Small Business Bag Makers While January was a rough month, it feels really good to have the guide out there. Already several of you have messaged me saying it helped you in your business and explained profit to you in a way that you understood! I know what it feels like to be left with no “profit” after the sale of a bag. To use what you earned toward the next bag, with nothing left over to pay yourself with. It’s not a great feeling… and it makes you feel like giving up on your business. That’s why I prioritized getting the guide finished for you in January! I wanted you to start the year with what I wish I had known when I was making/selling bags full time. I wanted you to be able to increase the profit in your sewing business! I wanted you to feel confident that each bag you sold this year was directly contributing to the growth and success of your business. And I wanted you to have the guide for free! As January comes to a close, you might be starting to think about your business again. Why not start off with what you need to know to increase the profit in your business? Use the link in our bio or DM me PROFIT and I’ll send you a link to the guide! PS: Keep an eye on your inbox next week for a worksheet I created to go along with your guide.

I get it -> pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone to sew an intermediate bag can be scary. Every “what if” can quickly arise to block you from taking action. Pushing yourself to sew an intermediate pattern can have great benefits though! With the right pattern you can grow your existing skills & learn new skills/techniques to wow your customers with! Investing the time into a more intricate bag doesn’t have to be scary! When you sew using a high-profit margin pattern, you can feel confident knowing each bag you make is directly contributing to your business success. A more complex bag = higher profit margin Which means you don’t need to make as many to produce a rewarding profit! If you’re ready to put your skills to the test with an intermediate bag pattern, but don’t want to waste your time with a design that won’t sell… we got you covered with our pattern The Scout! (Which also comes in a mini by the way…) Click the link in our bio to get a copy of the pattern and start maximizing the profit in your business today!
