SIZE GUIDE: I created this āguideā to show what my different print, and original, sizes look like IRL⦠compared to a pretty average š human (5ā9āā). Aspect ratios are at the top. I hope you find it useful. Itās also on my website. š¤š¼ā”ļø
Let me reintroduce myself, for those new here. Iām Robert Evans, fifth generation Atlantan currently living in Lisbon, Portugal.
Iāve been an artist my whole life. But like many young creatives, I detoured my fine-art trajectory by going to design school and becoming an award-winning advertising professional for 20+ years.
Throughout my life Iāve repaired, modified, and built the things around me - From t-shirts to skateboards to motorcycles. Sometimes this was done out of necessity, sometimes for fun. Either way, I developed a fascination with the inner workings of machines and the unsung heroes who crafted illustrations for patent applications, service manuals, and instruction guides.
Combining my love for mechanical illustrations, vintage advertising, clean graphics, and a Gen-Xāerās affinity for handcrafted objects, I create original paintings, drawings, and limited edition prints for those who appreciate a wink and nod to the days of analog craftsmanship. š¤š¼ā”ļø

This is a photo I took of a womanās fluffy shoes during art week in Lisbon. The instax film doesnāt show how green they actually are. Apparently she had some in red too.
I thought they were fun.

This is from a little ādime novelā that was produced by the Portuguese railway. I donāt actually know much about these little stories but I find them at the flea market. Theyāre mostly text but have a few illustrations per book. I think theyāre from the 50s/60s. If someone knows let me know. š¤š¼ā”ļø

This is a photo through the bars of the little chapel on the edge of the cliff next to SantuĆ”rio de Nossa Senhora do Cabo Espichel. Apparently the chapel has been there for longer than most of the old stuff around Portugal. I highly recommend visiting Cabo Espichel if youāre looking for something to do away from Lisbon for a day. But not if youāre just in town visiting⦠thereās lots of better options. š
This is why I donāt trust people to do⦠anything. And why I prefer to do things myself. It doesnāt have to be perfect. I do lots of things I wish could be āperfectā but are acceptable, and probably to a higher standard than most. Iād like to blame a societal shift but Iāve experienced this my whole life. Luckily I can fix stuff. What if this happened to someone else? Theyād have to go BACK to the shop and have them fix it. What a waste of time. Is it just me or do you have better luck with people?
Collecting art is easy when you start with abstract, and thereās tons of styles to choose from. With abstract you can make up your own story and no one will know. Heck, make up a new story every day! You can even make up the style you like⦠as I have here⦠kinda. Look, putting original art in your space is proven to enhance you mood and improve your life lots of other ways. It doesnāt matter what youāre into⦠just get started, even if getting something that āworksā in your space. If you like the artwork I have here check out the artists⦠they make cool stuffā¦

This is a photo of graffiti I saw in Lisbon. The fact that it was in English caught my eye. Then I realized it was a quote from the Sex Pistolsā āGod Save the Queen.ā Of course, one of my favorite bands. ⦠āWhen thereās no future how can there be sin?
Weāre the flowers in the dustbin
Weāre the poison in your human machine
Weāre the future, your futureā
A few months ago I went to the MACAM for a talk about art collecting. Smart crowd, interesting speakers. It was raining as was the norm for the first part of the year, so I left my umbrella in the little entrance hallway with everyone elseās. A very nice black one with my Evans Made logo spray painted on it in white, about twelve inches wide. Hard to miss.
When I left the event there was a bit of confusion regarding umbrellas. Not wanting to be a part of the chaos I waited smugly to the side as no one was going to take my obviously custom umbrella. Apparently someone had taken the wrong umbrella and set off a chain reaction which resulted in some sort of free-for-all where people were taking whatever they could.
When the crowd filed out of the little room I looked down to find they had left me with the most pathetic little umbrella of the lot.
Someone had actually taken my umbrella!
Hereās what I canāt get past: I donāt know how you grab someone elseās umbrella and donāt notice the ergonomics feel wrong, the button is different, the size, even if it was just another black umbrella, which it wasnāt. I notice everything. This person notices nothing. Somewhere in Lisbon my umbrella is living with a monster. Not to mention, they can easily Google āEvans Madeā and find me⦠to return it.
I didnāt even take the sad umbrella. I have standards.
I ordered a replacement. Had it for a week and IT went missing. Iām usually meticulous about keys and other items so Iām calling it a glitch in the matrix. Although it could be living with an uber driver.
Ordered another one and IT was lost in the mail.
Finally, third times the charm, now with multiple security measures⦠Light blue which is not black, my logo on it⦠twice, and a skeleton hand giving the finger, which is my general feeling about a rainy day but also good for communicating with errant drivers.
Anyway⦠New umbrella. Recognizable. Youāll see me coming.
And you better believe Iām still keeping an eye out for my old one.

This is a photo of a vintage BMW that resides in my neighborhood. Itās got some rust but itās made up for with style. It makes me smile every time I see it and I like that itās a somewhat daily driver.
