After 4 years, our first trailer for
@marishouse.kids is ready!
From conception, to character back stories, designs from countless designers, endless edits and revisions, universe building, strategy, meetings and convos with others and even more with ourselves…we’re finally here!
Mari’s House is a kids property we (
@postofficesound @jlee_williams and
@evanmiless and I, collectively called Sleeping Giants) created to be the content and material we wanted to educate and entertain our kids with, and hopefully other families too.
The universe revolves around a mixed-race family in Toronto. Jin and Amina, who are divorced, fall in love and introduce their kids, Jai and Zahara from their previous marriage to each other. The kids get along and become best friends. Jin and Amina get married and have a baby together, Sebbie. He’s gifted a stuffed octopus named Mari, who only he can communicate and travel to an imaginary world with. Through it all, the family navigates through different adventures and modern family obstacles, exploring themes of being mixed and blended, struggles of parenthood, identity, culture, community, generational differences, growth, compassion, grace, understanding and so much more.
We wanted to create content that parents could feel safe leaving their kids in front of a screen with. We know it takes a village to raise a child and we see that as our role. We’ve implemented Montessori learning techniques, safe color palettes and edit speed rates. Even our music has been created with subdued tones to be safer for kids.
The team and I have a deep love for Toronto. We wanted to build something that could tell its stories and sing its songs. Not only do we want to introduce Toronto in a different way to the world, but also remind everyone in our hometown that so much beauty still exists in a city that we may have overlooked through the years.
This is our love letter to everything that Toronto is.
There’s a lot more in store for this project but we’ll take that one step at a time.
This is just the beginning.
But wish us luck.
