Hecox’s extensive travels to cities like Tokyo, New York, and San Francisco have played a crucial role in shaping his art. His love for urban exploration, wandering through city streets and sketching the architecture and everyday scenes, gives his work a grounded, authentic feel. By distilling the essence of these global urban environments into minimalist, stylized visuals, he captures the unique spirit of each place he visits. After his visit to Chicago in 2024, Hecox created this work as a companion for a client commission that explored abstract compositions. The background is an original vintage Chicago Tribune newspaper from the late 1800's. I’m honored and excited to be part of the group exhibition Visual Language: Vistas @subliminalprojects opening tomorrow night 2/22 in Los Angeles. This exhibition features 23 artists who expand and redefine the traditional form of landscape art with a focused tribute to California. This timely exhibition comes at a difficult time for many in Los Angeles and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the LA Arts Community Fire Relief Fund.

"This piece represents a new turning point in my work, using physical material to create a three dimensional sculpture. It is essentially an abstract, totem sculpture but it also finds it’s from through the words Roaring Fork, turned vertically, then mirrored to create a symmetrical, dimensional piece. The natural materials of poplar and rusted steel evoke a feeling of old Aspen and it’s history as a mining town." Evan Hecox Roaring Fork, 2024 Wood 65 x 13 3/4 x 2 in @evanhecox
