🗣️ "From the very first evening, where students from Barcelona, London, France, Slovenia and Belgium gathered around the table, it became clear that this was more than just a conference. It was a real exchange of perspectives across cultures, disciplines and histories."
On February 27 and 28, 2026, the EUTOPIA Connected Learning Community in Legal History, composed of professors and students from
@vubrussel ,
@cy_univ ,
@upfbarcelona and
@univerza_v_ljubljani held its annual Peak Event at the UPF Ciutadella Campus. The event, organised by Professor Alfons Aragoneses (
@alfnsarag ) from the Department of Law, brought together 4 professors and 21 students and focused on the theme “The End(s) of War.”
During the meeting, students presented their research, covering a wide range of topics, including the Peace of Vienna, colonial wars, post-World War I legal transformations, exile and repression after the Spanish Civil War, international justice, and technological changes associated with the end of armed conflicts. Presentations were organised chronologically, starting with wars before 1914, followed by the interwar period, the end of the Second World War, and post-war European unification projects.
On the second day, the group took a guided tour of the Born archaeological site (
@museuhistoriabarcelona ) to examine the effects of the War of the Spanish Succession in Barcelona and concluded with a self-guided visit to the war and art exhibitions at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (
@museunacional ), focusing on the Civil War and its aftermath.
This event gave students the opportunity to apply historical knowledge and research methodologies while fostering dialogue between European universities and across historical disciplines. The initiative will continue with a virtual exhibition showcasing the research conducted.
