Get to know our history📜 👉Today we talk about our expansion to America 📆In 2017, we welcomed our first associated country in South America, Chile! 🌎Chile joined Eureka to have a more systemic cooperation with countries in our network on the topic of research and development. With this decision, Eureka reaches South America! It is not the first American country to do so though! In North America, Canada had set the example in 2012, becoming the first associated member in America. Get to know our history!📜 Today we talk about the origins of our Eurostars programme🟦 👉In 2007, after two years of negotiations between the national and European level, Eureka launches a new funding programme. It addresses a very niche audience: SMEs dedicating at least 10% of their annual turnover to R&D. 27 states and the EU are immediately interested in taking part in this initiative. 🟦At its launch event in Brussels, leading policymakers, including the then European Commissioner on Research, public officers and industry experts gather to celebrate the beginning of this new Eureka chapter. 👉Have you guessed which programme we’re referring to? Eureka decides that countries located geographically outside of Europe can apply to be an associated country. This status allows them to run call for projects, while not being able to vote in most high-level meetings. This is their story. 👉Today we introduce our Cluster on advanced manufacturing, SMART. 📜SMART is the most recent of our Clusters, born in 2018 with a specific vision: become the preferred programme for international close-to-market R&D&I advanced manufacturing projects. Despite its young age, it has already made an impact, fostering innovation in the manufacturing field. 💯Example of successful projects funded under this Cluster include: 🔸APEM AM, a project on integrated optimisation of metal additive manufacturing through advanced design, real-time monitoring, and efficient post-processing to enhance quality, reduce costs, and boost productivity. 🔸Dynamic SALSA, a project that develops AI-driven dynamic scheduling and digital twin technologies for smart automotive manufacturing, enabling interoperable platforms, sustainable logistics, and practical shop floor applications. 📜Get to know our history! Today we talk about Eureka and its focus on sustainability♻️ 👉It’s 1994, Eureka is 9 years old, and the results of its actions are starting to be visible. It’s time to celebrate its first successes but also to reflect on what innovation should look like moving forward. 🌱1994 is the year where Eureka goes green. The Lillehammer Statement on the environmental dimension declares that all Eureka projects should, from now on, be mindful of environmental concerns. 🏆Moreover, the Lillehammer award is created, a prize to reward Eureka projects with relevant environmental achievements. The first award goes to a health-related project. This is their story. 👉 Today we introduce our Cluster on software and systems innovation, ITEA. 📜 Founded in 1998 and renewed in 2006, 2014, and 2021 thanks to its success, ITEA is now in its fourth iteration. Its mission is to provide a dynamic environment that brings together partners from its global innovation community to develop and execute impactful RD&I driving digital transformation and the emerging Cyber-Physical Metaverse. 💯Two examples of successful projects funded under ITEA: 🔹 SIGNET transformed complex image-guided medical procedures into personalised, AI-enhanced, MR-guided treatments and interventions that offer better outcomes for patients and greater efficiency for healthcare systems. 🔹 EXPLAIN developed human-centric tools making AI outputs understandable, transparent, and actionable. Today we talk about our network and its growth! 👉After the fall of the Berlin wall, Eureka started looking to the East with the idea of including new countries in its network and further pursue its objective of facilitating cross-border cooperation in research and development. At this point, Eureka included 20 countries in its network (Iceland and Albania had joined in 1986 and 1990 respectively). Who would join next? 🌍A network of Eureka national Information points was created in European non-member countries. The first country to obtain this status (the first step to full membership) was Hungary, in 1992. ❓🌍Up until 2016, Eureka had mainly fostered innovation between countries part of its network, but a new idea took hold: how to offer even more opportunities to European SMEs and fund their cooperation with a partner in non-Eureka countries? 🟪That’s the rationale behind the development of our Globalstars programme, born in 2016 and still going strong! 👉Through Globalstars, innovators from Eureka countries can obtain funding to cooperate with a partner in a market outside of Eureka.
