I have two extraordinary mothers.
My mother, Ann, is fiercely protective and the powerhouse of our family. She raised me to be confident, educated, and capable of taking on anything life places in front of me. She taught me that a woman can be both gentle and assertive, graceful yet unafraid to use her voice.
She showed me how to carry myself with dignity and to trust my own voice above the noise of the world. Her love was so deep that it gave me not only guidance, but intuition, the ability to sense who and what deserves my heart, and the wisdom to protect it when needed. She reminds me that loyalty is precious, that integrity matters, and that a kind heart is never weakness. Because of my mother, I became the woman I am today.
Later in life, I was blessed with my mother in law, Tina. She welcomed me into her family with warmth, affection, and a generosity of spirit that changed my life. She nurtured not only me, but my marriage, teaching me how love can soften even the hardest edges of the heart.
There is something so beautiful about the way she loves the people around her. When I feel my husband’s kindness, patience, and capacity to love me so fully, I see where it came from.
You both taught me that womanhood is passed down not just through blood, but through example. I love you both, and I am so lucky to be your daughter and daughter in law.
Happy Mother’s Day ❤️
(And a shoutout to my brother, who failed to send me childhood photos with my mom from my bedroom back home 😂)
Thank you @sphmediasg for having us in Singapore. Had a great time sharing our story with @zaobaosg@shinmindailynews @@ufm1003 and @963haofm I really appreciate the support.
Been a while since I’ve done this. Felt like a bit of a throwback.
And of course, had to get some chicken rice.
Special thanks to my friend @williamleemc for setting this all up. He was the most gracious and knowledgeable host.
As two Chinese individuals raised in different parts of the world, we are grounded in tradition, with modern sensibilities. We reflected this throughout our ceremony, from the details to the setting to our attire, honoring our families and our heritage.
In our culture, we honor every generation. Our elders, our ancestors, our children, and those yet to come. The past, present, and future come together as one. In our story, East and West are part of the same conversation. Heritage does not stand still. It grows, it evolves, and it lives on through each generation.
