This will be the fifth edition of the World Skate Games, regarded as the Olympics of Roller Sports and organised by World Skate who are the governing body for Skateboarding at the Olympics.
The Melbourne event comes amid a global resurgence in inline skating or roller freestyle as it's now known and is officially backed by the sportâs national governing body, Skate Australia.
It marks the first time Australian inline skaters have been able to qualify locally for the world skate games through an organsied event.
Athletes will compete across Inline Park/Street event on Saturday, 14 March, at Melbourneâs newest world-class skate park in Prahran, followed by a multi-sport vert (half pipe demonstration)
The event is being organised by former Australian professional skater Sam Fogarty, a World Champion in the 1990s. Fogarty has recently returned to competitive skating, representing Australia at the World Championships in Japan last year and the 2024 World Skate Games in Italy.
âWith the renewed popularity of inline skating, this gives a new generation of Australian athletes their first real opportunity to qualify for the World Skate Games on home soil,â he said.
Several of Australiaâs top skateboarders will also take part in the vert (half pipe) demonstration.
