Categories of Intervention (CIs) are labels used to account for projects funded by the EU. However, ECFโs latest research shows that cycling-related CIs are frequently used for projects that have very little to do with cycling (if anything at all). Reversely, many cycling projects are miscategorised under other CIs.
๐ The problem: This obscures the impact of funding and the data we can use to advocate for cycling.
โ The solution: ECF recommends using CIs as containers of information rather than catchalls. But more importantly, CI nomenclature must be refined and reporting systems should have stricter regulations.

The countdown to Velo-city conference 2026 has begun! On Monday 15 June, the annual ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ & ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ด๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐๐ฐ๐น๐ถ๐๐๐ (๐๐ฅ๐) ๐ก๐ฒ๐๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ธ ๐๐ฎ๐ will bring together almost 60 network members from 25 countries to open conference week with fresh ideas and shared ambitions.

The city administration is strengthening Varaลพdinโs identity as a cycling city by pairing steady political commitment with practical measures to shift mobility habits โ from adapting traffic rules to fit cyclistsโ needs to supporting residents with incentives and integrating cycling into a wider mobility system.
We spoke to Miroslav Markoviฤ, Deputy Mayor of the City of Varaลพdin and Member of the Croatian Parliament, to learn more about the cityโs cycling goals and achievements.
