So, after almost a month of serious struggle with my
@cort_basses C5Q, trying to solve buzzing electronics, desoldering and resoldering connections and performing Deep cleanings, i finally moved to the drastic solution of changing all the circuitry by scratch. As i don't understand a thing about basic electronics, i didn't find any wiring diagram that could help me figure out how the old circuit was actually wired to replicate It.
I chose the smart way: Bought a
@darkglasselectronics long desired Tone Capsule preamp, matched with a couple of
@emgpickups Active DCX.
Studied almost a week on the EMG and darkglass diagrams to fit all in 4 holes of my bass body, in order to avoid frying the preamp due to uncorrect connections. I chose a master volume added to the 3 pots of the darkglass eq provided. I used the provided EMG volume pot, 25k impedance, perfect for Active electronics. No blend pot as i didn't want to drill an extra hole.
Once figured It all out, i had to ream 3 holes cuz the darkglass pots are a Little bit thicker than the Ones i had before. I Had to dig and extra 5mm deep in the battery compartment too, in order to Place in a couple of 9v battery. That would give me more headroom on the output, avoiding the signal to clip as the pickups are very loud.
Well, everything seems to work. I'm actually stoked on how this bass sound now. Well spent Money in the First Place, and i actually understood how things work in my bass. The EMG solderless connections are the best so far, Easy wiring. Just had to solder the output jack wires.
Stoked for the tone, stoked for the clarity and punch of the pickups, stoked about how the darkglass eq reacts to them. Really Happy for the work done. This bass now sound like a
@dingwallguitars instrument: nasal mids, clear low end, popping himids. Just add a bit of distortion and it crushes your chest right away.
