Bom dia!
I'm Johnny, the new (arguably better looking 😉) face of Ethicoco, in our new home of Boscombe!
After an unexpected conversation with Lyndon back in January, the (un)hostile takeover began, with renovations of the new premises beginning end of Feb.Totally out of my normal skillset of coaching surf, teaching yoga and climbing wall work, it took some months to get everything in and learn the art of chocolate, whilst juggling all of the above.
We now have hundreds of bars in over 20 flavours, some old, some favourites reformulated, and quite a few new; most importantly, all as delicious as ever 🍫 . In the background I was prepping the new coffee shop ready to ply you with caffeine and indulgent hand-made hot chocolate. With help and support from so many friends, Lyndon especially, and a dear lady who will be forever known as Rainha da estética (Queen of aesthetic) I'm now open!
Please bear with me in terms of opening times as I'm very much a one man band (🦊 Jarob is ever present but is only useful at sitting and looking cute), but if the A-Frame is out on the high street I'm ready to welcome you in.
Check out some of the photos for where to find me, and I can't wait to see you soon!
📸 Kudos to @bucaphoto for the amazing pics. Thank you friend, everyone check out his work, including @climbunity.exh

Offering up 3 of our classic well loved flavours in a small collection. The perfect opportunity to try what different ideas we have in the kitchen at Ethicoc. From the blend of bitter matcha and sweet white chocolate, to the fully nut, dairy and gluten free "mylk" chocolate, and the popular 75% dark, nothing but cocoa beans and a little sugar.
Not many of the Guatamala bars left so take advantage of this great offer!
Turns out a downside of my ADHD is burnout. Taking a much needed holiday, will be back soon don't worry. I totally meant to send out a newsletter etc last week to let people know ahead of time if you needed advance chocolate fulfilment, but please refer to first sentence.
See you soon x
In honour of a standout charity, we find the same great stone ground taste of our cocoa, blended with biryani spices and pieces of dried banana. Like many things with me, what seemed like a silly joke amongst friends quickly became reality, and I gotta say, I'm a huge fan of the flavour profiles! The richness of the 65% dark Tanzanian cocoa balanced with the contrasting sweet and spicy flavours or the biryani spices. For those with a more sensitive palate, don't worry, there's not too much chilli in this one, just enough to give that tongue a tickle!
What's more is that you can enjoy this chocolate knowing that 40% of the proceeds will be going to a great cause: Refugee Biryani and Bananas. Working closely with displaced peoples across Europe and the middle East, they provide assistance, shelter and food, with a community led approach, ensuring the needs of those displaced are met, not needs decided from above.
Welcome to the "Alomes", a delicious new flavour, and the family after whom it's named. 70% dark Tanzanian stone ground beans, with organic baobab fruit to finish! I've had this idea for a while but it's taken me a minute to get myself organised and make it.
The story behind the chocolate: 2 years ago, travelling through west Africa I met Tchamoboyo "Mark", staying with him, his wife Charity and "Le Destructeur" Elyakim, a fab little ball of energy who is their little boy.
He showed me such grace, kindness and with the biggest open heart, they took me in as family, taking me to explore parts of Togo most yt ppl don't get a chance to see. Named after them, baobab was chosen because of the juice Mark would always present me with; delicious and oh so nutritious!
Most people don't know this but Togo has been subject to an ever increasing authoritarian regime, the same dynastic government for generations now, and things are only getting harder. With the growing risk to anyone that speaks out or expresses dissidence, anyone would wonder why the US hasn't stepped in for regime change (❌🛢️🤔).
I've wanted to do something for Mark since I left, for example, looking at options for short term agriculture visas here and beyond (we don't allow Africans), and this is something small I can offer. He does so much for his immediate and surrounding family, is a big part of his local community too, and has been struggling to find meaningful long-term work. So for this small batch, with each £10 bar, £4 will go to Mark and his family. Once all are sold I'll arrange to transfer and will cover all fees personally. It's not going to be a huge dramatic change, but sometimes even the effort and thought can mean even more.
So get in touch to claim yours and delight in the delicious choc with goodness at its heart 🫶🏽
Using high quality beans, procured by hand and brought direct from Mexico, we have a very special small batch of El Mezcalito (75% Dark, Smoked Chilli and Lime) for the first of hopefully many bars for charity! Although this wasn't my planned first charity batch, see the reasons 👇🏽
The beans themselves were lovingly gifted, and by someone I have since pushed away out my life after some mistakes I've made, so it hasn't felt right to enjoy them, and certainly not make any money from them. Whereas this isn't some poor attempt at redemption (they'll not know), it is perhaps less altruistic, but it seems apt to ensure the money goes to a worthy cause.
So, choosing something that is close to both our hearts, that of refugees/migrants and the LGBTQ community, makes this an easy choice. Also sharing the origin of the cocoa and Mezcal itself, 100% of the proceeds will be going to @lacasitadeut , a Tijuana based shelter for the trans and migrant community. Check out their page and see the good work they do, and how they need funds to keep supporting these vulnerable communities.
Only 9 available £16 for each bar, with the added knowledge that you're doing a good thing absolutely free. Get in touch or pop in the shop :)
Fancy your own photo grinning inanely and holding a chocolate bar you've just made?!
In the new year I'll be running workshops, where you'll learn the history and the process behind producing chocolate, from bean to bar!
From mixed groups, to more private events, get in touch to see how we can meet your needs, and buy yourself, or someone special, the opportunity to mould your own chocolate. Perfect for Christmas, birthdays, or any random Thursday celebrations.

🍫 CLOSING DOWN WEEKEND 🍫
As a lot of you know, this weekend is set to be our cafe's final weekend here at Ethicoco - so make sure you get here while you can and get your hands on the last stock we will ever produce!
Don't miss your final change to grab the last chocolate spreads, simple syrups, cocoa nibs and chocolate bar and get a free waffle with every product purchase!
We hope to see you there!
Our poor pipes haven't coped very well with the winter weather so unfortunately the cafe will be closed this weekend (4th/5th January) 🥶
We'll hopefully be running again next weekend! 💧
Apologies!
