Colombia update
Hola a todos! On our way from Aracataca to Iraguaní we were stuck for 6 hours by a local community road blockage. They wanted to generate awareness and put pressure on the local government to resolve the water situation: a water plant that was partly built in their village Bellavista on 2014. The plant was never finished. They’d never had clean water! Some of them produce coffee up in the sierra. We interviewed some of the leaders, the village was partly destroyed by conflict between paramilitaries and guerrilla fighters a few years back.
Most of houses don’t exist any more.
The Federation’s coffee collecting point is a derelict space now.
It’s a tough reality for this community.

🤓A little behind the scenes from our last Cupping Session at our Roastery!

Yesterday marked a significant date in Colombia: the commemoration of 78 years since the assassination of Jorge Eliécer Gaitán. This event is widely regarded as a pivotal moment in the country’s history, contributing to a prolonged period of political violence and the subsequent emergence of various armed groups. The date is also officially recognized as the National Day of Remembrance and Solidarity with the Victims.
As part of the commemorations, we visited @latrochalacasadelapaz in Bogotá, a unique collective formed by former guerrilla members who signed the peace agreement a decade ago. The space hosted a series of exhibitions and discussions reflecting on memory, reconciliation, and post-conflict transitions.
One exhibition in particular got our attention: a photographic project amplifying the voices of women who were once part of armed groups, and who are now mothers, entrepreneurs, and participants in broader social processes. Their testimonies also highlight the complex ways in which individuals have experienced the conflict, especially women as victims.
In the conflict many women were raped, had to join armed groups by force, some under age and had no right to leave.
It is to be hoped that Colombia will continue advancing toward a more comprehensive and lasting peace.

On Friday 13th March, Labour MP for Bethnal Green and Stepney Rushanara A. visited our new Roastery in Shoreditch to chat with George Hood, our General Manager.
They caught up about the challenges of running a purpose-driven Social Enterprise in the current economic climate, the future plans for the organisation and how TCCC might become a representative for local business communities in engaging with the government at the local and national level.
Rushanara is welcome back anytime for a coffee and a catch up!

☕🇨🇴 Ir a Colombia y NO tomar buen café… ¿eso se puede? 👀
Descubrí Ethica y ahora entiendo la diferencia del café de especialidad. ¿Eres team espresso o capuchino? #Bogotá
Cacao occupies an essential role in Colombia, it’s a central element in every household, our daily life and rituals.
At TCCC, we like honouring it by making it in the traditional way. The molinillo and olleta are not a merely aesthetic decision, they are a way of connecting with our culture and bring a bit of Colombia to Central London.
You too can make it the Colombian way, if not see Benji, our (British) Supervisor, making a delicious cup of chocolate caliente.
All the way from Santuario, Risaralda, we brought this small batch of Natural Tabi to our London Cafés.
Bright and fruity, it has quickly became a favourite around filter lovers.
Get one before it sells out!
