orchids are a significant symbol for fertility, and overall represents the life and death of a human. my theme is identity through the performance of femininity, so i decided to implement this into a portrait. the orchid withers as it goes further down her body, possibly symbolizing infertility or inability to bear a child. the orchid obstructs her face to show how women are often seen only for their ability to procreate, or could be judged for not wanting to have children. she’s surrounded and binded by the orchid buds- possibly also representing the burden, or feeling as a woman that you must have children. there’s a lot of ways this piece can be interpreted though, and every interpretation is valid. :)

i’ve had this idea for awhile and i’m so happy they’ve actually come to life!! i don’t post my ocs on here much anymore so this is sort of new for me..

piece i did for ap art :-) the theme for my pieces this year is “identity through the performance of femininity”. the correlation i found between the butcher diagram of a pig mixed with the plastic surgery guidelines really inspired me. i think tying them together really shows how women can be dehumanized by society, no matter how pretty they are. i hope you like this piece as much as i liked making it!
