Woo Hoo, two years of Creative Abstract Watercolor & six months of Creative Abstract Mixed Media! 💙💚🩵 I’ve just hit these two milestones and I couldn’t be prouder of these books! The best part of being an author is the lovely messages, emails, and photos I’m sent with kind words, and better still, pictures of the gorgeous work you’ve created based on my book projects. I’m so glad to have helped people find their creative spirit and help them on their own personal watercolour journey! It’s still a dream come true to be a published author, and even more exciting is that I’m working on not one but two exciting new book projects, I cannot wait to share them with you. Thank you to @dandcbooks for believing in me and helping make this dream a reality. 📚 Do you have one of my books? I’d love to know your favourite project or chapter! EDIT For those asking book one is available in 7 languages so far, I’ve tagged the publishers below if you’re looking for a foreign language edition… French @les_editions_de_saxe Danish @forlagetbogoo German @christophorusverlag Hungarian @tolgy_kiado Spanish @libreriascontrapunto Swedish @lindochco English @dandcbooks

Explore Marrakesh with me! 🧡♥️💙🩷 Colour, pattern, textures and sunshine, what better inspiration can you ask for?! Marrakesh is an assault on the sense, the hustle, bustle and the sights and smells of the souks are a culture shock in the very best way! I’m soaking up every last drop of inspiration and drooling over the amazing colour palettes that pop up around every corner! Here’s just a small sample of the hundreds of photos I’ve taken already! Thank you to the lovely Cassie @wanderingwomenretreats for curating this incredible journey ♥️ #watercolourinspiration #travellingartist #wanderingwomenretreats

I’ve found my forever fineliner! 🩷 If you’ve met me at a workshop you’ll know I’m never without my trusty Lumos pen by @tomsstudio , having been gifted it back in Christmas 2023. I was sick and tired of using single use fineliners and wanted to find a more sustainable tool for my creative work. This is infinitely refillable with any fountain pen ink, result! It soon become a vital piece of my embellishment toolkit - I use the Duo pen, meaning I have two options for my nibs at any one time, currently I’m using the 0.1mm tip (used in this piece) as well as a lovely brush tip (it comes with a full range of 11 tips!). Fast forward to May this year and I met Tom at the London Stationery Show. After much geeking out over pens I was delighted when he invited me to become an ambassador. As you know I will only ever recommend materials I use myself and truly believe in, so of course I jumped at the chance! This means I get to offer you lovely lot 10% off any order over £30, drop me a comment with the word PEN and I’ll send you a link to have a nose round Toms website! 👀 #Gifted Ps you know I’m always open and honest, so if you do shop using the link I get a little commission which helps fund my art practice (and may well be spent on more pens!) 😝

Embellished vs plain, thanks for your input! 🌸🌸🌸 Do you recognise this piece? Last month I posted it plain and unadorned, asking for your advice, should I embellish or not, the age old conundrum! Well you came up trumps and many suggested I print it and then embellish that, as a way to experiment without risking my original. I really like the new version, it came out slightly darker than the original (which I would normally correct on this test print) but I actually really like the deeper pink/red with the white and gold! Anyway, what do you think, do you like how it turned out? Let me know in the comments, are you team embellished or plain? I’m dying to know what you think!

Thanks to all my fabulous students over the last few days at @theclassroombycobblesandclay ! A visit to Yorkshire is always fun, but even more so when it revolves around painting, new friends, and some excellent food! Scroll though to see some of the work from yesterdays workshop including some familiar faces, a new experimental border, lots of seascapes, and the lovely Jennifer who came to paint with me all the way from Colorado USA! I’ve run out of room in today’s post so I’ll have to post the florals & botanicals workshops next week!

New! 💙💚🩵 Today I thought I’d share one of my new fabric designs with you, it’s part of the Canvas & Co collection by @windhamfabrics . Listen through to hear where my inspiration comes from, as I’ve attempted a little voiceover (so scary!), is it just me or does everyone else hate hearing their voice recorded?! Do I really sound like that? Anyway, I hope you like the new design, I’d love to know how you’d use this canvas! 😝

Creative play! 🧡❤️♥️ I’m still mega inspired by my recent Morocco trip, so I’ve found myself looking back through my test sheets looking for colour and pattern. For while I didn’t use sketchbooks much so experimented on loose sheets. I’ve found it really useful to look back and these and pick up little ideas for shapes, colour palettes and composition! These sheets (and my newer sketchbook work) are often where I’m far more relaxed rather than striving for perfection. Do I love this whole page? No. Do I think there’s areas that are pretty cool and worth sharing? Definitely! This is your little reminder to play and experiment, that’s my plan for today. How do you get your creative juices flowing, I’d love to know! ☺️

It’s ‘Throwback Thursday’ so here’s a little tryptic of pebble pieces I created for a lovely lady via commission, scroll through to see all three together. The vintage book paper was so fun to work on, this reminds me to dig it out again and have a play! Spring and summer months definitely make me reach for different colours, what do you think of these ones? Also what palette are you working with at the moment, I’d love to hear what’s been inspiring you! Anyway, I’m off to the studio to write (and paint!) as the first manuscript for book three is due at the end of the month so wish me luck!!! Xxx 😘

My newest fabric collection, Flora & Form, launched in stores recently and I’ve LOVED seeing what everyone’s creating with it! Here the delightful @mx.domestic has created this incredible weave using the full collection, I love the way they’ve balance the different patterns and colourways, just wow! Head to their website to shop the full range of designs. Have you seen this fabric out in the wild, or maybe you’ve made something with it yourself? I’d love to see your photos, and share them on my page! 🤎🧡💙

Fresh spring greens! As I look outside my window today by garden is covered in pink confetti petals where the cherry blossom has fallen and left behind new green leaves across its branches. While I’m always sad to see the blossoms fall it’s a sign of new growth and that summer is well and truly on the way! My garden is full of shiny new sprouts and sprigs, I’m hoping to replicate this in my studio with the start of a new sketchbook, full of ideas, experiments, failure and hopefully a few triumphs too! To kickstart this here’s a piece from last spring, a fun experiment that I ended up quite liking! I love spring as a time for new beginnings, it’s feels so hopeful! Are you starting anything new this season?

New work! ♥️🧡🩷💛❤️ I finally got a moment to myself this week, and as a treat I just played with my paints creating lively loose watercolours patterns to help calm my busy brain! This was much needed and I actually liked the results so much I decided to create a piece around them! I used my trusty circle punch to cut up the abstract pattern pieces and then created a watercolour grid to sit them on. I like the uniformity of the squares with the craziness of the colour and patterned circles. This coming week I’m back to working on my new book, so I hope this little bit of play helps the creativity keep flowing! I can’t wait to show you all the new pieces when the time comes, I hope you love it. If you have anything you’d love to see in my next book drop me a comment below, I’ll do my best to include them! Sorry for the long post, I’m in a chatty mood and I feel like I haven’t written properly to you guys for ages! Anyway, have a fab day xxx Kate
