We held an open house event at our new Portland office location to celebrate the impactful work happening in this super collaborative space!
The event was filled with connections, enjoying the view of Mt. Hood, appreciating the building’s historic ties to the art community, and even some caricature portrait fun.
It’s been our pleasure to serve our clients in and around the Portland area. 🥂Cheers to the team and the bright future ahead!

From mitigation sites to parks and protected open space, managing natural lands is complex and it doesn’t stop once a project is approved.
These landscapes take years of planning, coordination, and long-term care. Along the way, public agencies, private investors, and nonprofits must stay aligned across every phase of the process.
That’s where TerraTrak™ comes in.
Built by ESA’s Technology Services team, TerraTrak is a centralized platform designed specifically for land stewardship. It brings planning, budgeting, fieldwork, and reporting into one place so teams can stay organized, informed, and connected.
From tracking invasive species to managing land acquisitions, TerraTrak provides a single source to support smarter, more effective stewardship over the long term.
Want to learn more at TerraTrak and how you can start implementing it today? Read our latest blog in our bio!
You can also visit us at the Environmental Markets Conference (EMC) from April 27–30, 2026, in Chattanooga, Tennessee where our team will be presenting a live demonstration of the platform.

🏢Our Oakland team cut the ribbon on our new office space this week and we could not be more excited!
Designed to support collaboration, flexibility, and connection, the space is filled with light from windows boasting dynamic views of Lake Merritt and downtown Oakland. Designed with sustainability in mind, the Haworth furniture used throughout the space meets verified, third‑party sustainability and health standards, supporting ESA’s objective to reduce environmental impact while creating healthy, adaptable workplaces.
Local staff gathered this week to raise a glass and celebrate the continued great work to come from our Oakland team.
"We're thrilled to be in our new home! Though a small move in terms of distance, this was a massive undertaking and was executed seamlessly by the team,” said Lauren Abom, Northern California Regional Director. “This move reflects our commitment to connection and collaboration, and we are proud to continue to serve our Oakland clients from this beautiful new space."

With reduced sediment supply combined with sea level rise, shoreline erosion of San Francisco Bay Estuary's tidal marshes has long been a growing concern.
In partnership with the California State Coastal Conservancy and other project partners (SFSU EOS, Smithsonian Institute, USGS, OEI), ESA's Environmental Hydrology and Design team has been working to implement and test various living shoreline concepts throughout the estuary. Restoration concepts include nearshore oyster reefs, beaches, native plantings, and much more.
Five years after implementation of a pilot project called the Giant Marsh Living Shorelines Project in Point Pinole, monitoring results will inform future work that is kicking off along Marin County's Corte Madera Marsh.
ESA's Damien Kunz and Michelle Orr talk about their monitoring results and what they mean for future restoration projects like Corte Madera Marsh in a recent article from Knee Deep Times. Read it at the link in our bio!

Ormond Beach, located in Oxnard, CA, is a unique coastal wetland restoration project that aims to preserve and restore various natural habitats and processes while also providing opportunities for easy and safe public access.
ESA's landscape architecture team is leading the design working alongside a team of engineers, ecologists, and soil scientists. Having been through several years of analysis, conceptual design iterations, and community engagement, Phase 1 of the project is currently moving forward with permitting.
Phase 1 will include roughly 50 acres of new salt panne and salt marsh habitat, more than 2.5 miles of new or improved trails, protection of threatened and endangered species, and public access amenities such as wildlife viewing areas, boardwalks, shade structures, and locations for outdoor education.
"Ormond Beach is the kind of project I became a landscape architect to work on,” said Russell Prange, Senior Landscape Architect at ESA. “The combination of habitat restoration, sea level rise resilience, and improved public access make it a wonderfully unique and important project."

🌎 Happy Earth Day from all of us at ESA!
Since the first Earth Day in 1969, this has been a time to celebrate the incredible natural world we all share, and a reminder of our role in protecting and preserving it for the future.
Our sustainability report, updated late last year, reaffirms our commitment to ESA’s vision, commitment, and responsibility to reduce emissions and improve sustainability associated with our operations. Learn more at the link in our bio!✨

The Deschutes Estuary Restoration Project in Olympia, Washington, is a major ecological initiative aimed at restoring the natural tidal flow between Capitol Lake and Budd Inlet.
By reestablishing the historic estuary, the project seeks to improve water quality, enhance salmon habitat, reduce invasive species, and support climate resilience through better sediment and nutrient exchange.
ESA landscape architects play a key role in translating the project’s ecological goals into a functional and publicly accessible landscape. Working alongside engineers, coastal scientists, and ecologists, they are helping to shape the design of restored shorelines, the waterfront capitol campus, and public access areas like parks to accommodate tidal processes while maintaining safety and usability.
“It’s hard not to have a blast when your job description includes ‘bring an estuary back to life,’” says Matthew Crampton, Principal Landscape Architect at ESA. “Getting to reshape a landscape where tides, salmon, and people all get a second chance isn’t just work—it’s like collaborating with the ocean itself.”
ESA landscape architects are helping balance restoration objectives with civic identity, creating a landscape that supports both ecological function and long-term public use.

Agrivoltaics is giving a whole new meaning to the term ‘solar farm’!☀️🐮
By adjusting common installation methods, solar panels can be used to help cultivate biodiversity and provide mutual benefits for both energy and agricultural production across our fields and farms!
In our latest blog, ESA Energy Planner Ryan Carew, explores the unique ways agrivoltaics and ecovoltaics are enhancing the use of solar, by scaling it to support ecological and agricultural efforts. Read it at the link in our bio! ✨
