I've spent the last few weeks thinking I will wake up and it's all gone. That everything was an elaborate dream, that my first solo show never happened. The works were all figments of my imagination that never came true. I never got up that one day, put on a suit and red lipstick and headed to my first ever solo exhibition opening.
And every time this creeps into my mind I have to remind myself of every deeply personal interaction I've had with people because of my work. People coming up to talk to me about my work, asking me what it means, telling me what they saw in it. People telling me they feel seen, that I've inspired them to create again and to take up space.
I can dream all I want that this was an imagined effort, but I cannot make up the overwhelming support and love that people have expressed.
For that I want to thank every single person that visited and saw my exhibition during its stay in @101.dump.gallery
Thank you for the overwhelming and unconditional love and support from my family and friends. A special thank you to my parents, without who's seemingly never ending love and support, none of this would have been possible
Thank you everyone, truly and incredibly from the deepest crevices of my pulpy heart.
Till next time ❤️🩹🫂
Big thank you for the awesome photos @theofrostphotography !

Nothing Personal
Arlo Babenko
31.03 — 12.04
Первая персональная выставка очень молодого художника Arlo Babenko @errorinspace .
Nothing Personal фиксирует это состояние, когда личное присутствует, но больше не принадлежит только одному человеку.

The fun thing about working with blue paint is that you're never getting a picture of it that is the actual shade that it is in real life!
Last month or so I've been working on very big reddish brown, very warm body paintings which I'll be posting soon as well, so obviously I got sick of it and started craving working with the color blue.
Last week I was watching the sky darken as the sun set, not a cloud in the sky. It was this extraordinary blue that I knew my camera could not capture, so I just stared out of the window and tried to memorize the color and gradient of the sky. These are the results of trying to remember that color.
Oil on canvas board, on cardboard and on canvas. Logical ways to avoid loneliness. Ways to think yourself out of loneliness.
Really enjoying putting oil on cardboard cus it makes it soooo nice and matt
That's all from me!

a piece exploring the push and pull between creating and destroying in a lighthearted and silly way. It utilizes everyday objects such as an apple, lipstick and cigarettes to demonstrate how you can simultaneously change the things around you and destroy them in the next breath
"Life in the 'big' city" was a comic I never finished in my first year of uni.
When I first moved 2 and a half years ago to Rotterdam I expected to be swept away by art uni life, never ending parties, classes, gallery opening ect ect... sex and the city-esque living! Can't say it was close to that at all!
But I've grown to like my quiet routines. And this comic is dedicated to that.
In the meantime between then and now I've been trying to explore how to distill myself into a comic character to continue making comics about whatever the hell it is that I experienced along the way. Definitely want to draw/finish more of the ideas I had in first year that I never polish off!
