As if in prayer, a lone saguaro stands with an ocotillo against sunset in the sonoran desert near Tucson. With a cobalt blue sky and tangerine orange spreading across the horizon, its easy to feel a spirit in this scene. “Sonoran Prayer” at Saguaro National Park, Rincon District. #sonorandesert #saguaronationalpark #saguaro #arizona #arizonalandscape landscapephotographymagazine

The view from Windy Point on the way up the Catalina Highway to the top of Mount Lemmon near Tucson. That’s about as close as I’ll ever get to the ledge.. lol. I’m still amazed at how plant life can grow in rocks.#Tucson #mountlemmon #catalina highway #arizona #thisistucson

All that draws me to the desert is here in “The Struggle” : muted colors, a landscape crowded with plants struggling to eek out an existance in a parched climate, mountains rising from the desert floor against a textured sky. Made along Linda Vista Trail, with Pusch Ridge and the Catalina Mountains behind, near Tucson, Az. #arizona #tucsonaz🌵 #desert

There is little order to the desert landscape: the golden underbrush twist around the palo verde trees, barrel cactus grow in clumps of two and three, competing for survival in the same patch of parched desert. But sometimes a symetry appears, a clean grouping so obvious and so out of place. The three saguaros captured in “Trio” are a pefect example as they stand in the late afternoon sun at Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Az. They stood erect near a roadside in a rare break in the crowded underbrush, as if planted there by a local gardener. Obiviously, they weren’t, which is why I love the image anyways. #saguaro #cactus #tucson #arizona

Along a Trail” The azure blue sky of morning is broken by a lone saguaro rising from the brush along the Dynamite Trail near Scottsdale. If I had my way, clouds would paint every morning sky, but sometimes Mother Nature decides to have her way. And that’s fine by me. More of my work at . Finale” Another day, another sunset along the beach in southern California...ho, hum. Well, maybe to local eyes, but to the this midwest native, this one is pretty special, thanks to a conveient cypress and a row of distant palms. What can be more California, right? Touring with family is not usually the best time to make stunning images; too many distractions. But not always. Take, for instance, a recent stop at Laguna Beach near L.A. I slipped away for a short walk along the beach just as the sun was dipping above the horizon. The photo gods tossed in a flock of seagulls taking flight at just the right time. Viola! “Laguna Sunet.” More of my work at . Read by my blog at #california #lagunabeach #californiasunset

I’ve been thinking alot about my beloved Arizona and the two years that have gone by since my last visit there. I’ve missed the connection with the desert and mountain landscape and the spirituality I feel working there. “View from Catalina Highway” is a reimagined image from a 2024 journey down from the top of 9,100-foot Mount Lemmon near Tucson. It’s easy to take for granted the gorgeous sunsets that paint the desert sky almost every night—except when you’re absent from the landscape for two years. #mtlemmon #arizonalandscapes #arizonaphotographer
