I was in middle school and had started studying music when I came across an LP by a band from overseas, Oregon. I was thunderstruck, I was curious about the title “Music of Another Present Era,” from then on my musical education changed, the emotion that pervaded me is still there today. And right now is the birthday of Ralph Towner, one of the members of this band, Ralph is an extraordinary person and a unique musician and composer. As fate would have it, so many years later I had the opportunity to collaborate in the production of their last 5 albums. Indelible memory was the first song recorded together “If” an iconic song for me, for the history of the band, every time I think about it the emotion takes my breath away. A dream that teenage boy could never have believed achievable. two Grammy Award nominations. The Oregonians and Ralph charmingly came into my professional life as a producer, and not only that, Ralph came into my personal life, for a beautiful time I had. Thanks to Ralph, Paul, Glenn and Mark, and Paolino who was part of the last project. Ralph all the best for a wonderful birthday, thank you again for the opportunity to have had this professional experience. But most of all thank you for sharing unforgettable moments of life. J’ai eu la chance de réaliser de très nombreuses productions, avec des artistes d’excellence et de calibre planétaire, parmi lesquels j’ai eu le plaisir de rencontrer et de travailler avec le Maestro Martial Solal.
Une personne magnifique, un des plus grands musiciens de la scène jazz internationale, mais deux choses restent gravées dans ma mémoire, la première est son arrivée au studio à Paris pour l’enregistrement de son projet solo, le rituel de l’échauffement de l’instrument, son microscopique livret rempli de titres, la barre de chocolat et la banane, là sur le piano pour faire le plein d’énergie avant sa prestation, comme toujours inoubliable. La seconde, c’est son arrivée au Village Vanguard à New York, pour l’enregistrement en direct d’un autre solo de piano, accueilli par Lorraine Gordon comme une star, et dans son silence, Lorraine l’informa que ce serait le premier solo en direct de l’histoire du club, et il afficha son léger sourire comme si c’était la chose la plus normale au monde.
Merci Maestro pour toute votre musique qui servira de leçon aux générations futures. Et merci beaucoup pour la confiance que vous m’avez témoignée en tant que producteur. Photo by John Abbott

Today, unfortunately, the last protagonist of a wonderful story has also left us; a story made up of men, travels, concerts, studio recordings, so many hours spent together, so much music, beautiful, unique, the result of a unique and unrepeatable alchemy.
