Accessibility in Entertainment NY City Council Bill Intro 1307 is here and next Thursday (10/23) is a big day for this bill (committee hearing day!)
Intro 1307 would create a film, television, and theater accessibility fund administered by the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME), in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities and the Mayor’s Office of Talent and Workforce Development.
It means casting directors can cast authentically and productions can employ the best people for a job (both on camera and behind the camera/in writers rooms etc), regardless of the cost of accommodations.
An accessibility bill brings jobs for EVERYONE...ie. not “only” the 1 in 4 people who identify as disabled.
It means more production, more resources.
How Can You Help?
1. If you are available (and local to NYC), please attend the hearing Thursday, October 23rd, at 10 AM at 250 Broadway, 8th floor (ie. 1 week from today!)
2. If you are not available or local to NYC...but want to express your support?
You can present a 2-minute testimony (in person, over zoom, or through written testimony) you will be able to sign up ahead of time (link in bio!)
And/or:
You can spread the word! In my Linktree in bio you will find a flyer, a draft of an email blast you can send, and the actual legislative bill if you want to read more!
Email me ([email protected]) or DM me anytime with any questions! I’ll connect you with the incredible folks who are leading the charge on this (I’m a mere supporter!), Rosalie Joseph, Eric Goldberg, and Alex Muhawi-Ho!
We are excited to share that legislation to create a fund for the hiring of people with disabilities in NYC Stage film or TV. Productions is a city council bill and will be having a hearing in support of making this bill a law. Information about the bill and the upcoming hearing are on the flyer. Reach out if you want any further information. We can do this!
