We won! I won!!! A moment for pause, reflection and gratitude: On Sunday February 4, 2023 the 66th annual Grammy Awards were presented. The announcement was made that the opera Champion won in the category for Best Opera Recording. I am proud to bring to life the character of Benny Kid Paret and the role of Benny Jr. son of Benny Paret. I am so thrilled that this incredible performance was recognized by the recording academy with this exhilarating win!!! It goes without saying that I’m so excited and most grateful to say I won a Grammy along with the Brilliant Terence Blanchard, the Extraordinary Yannick Nezet-Seguin, my Wonderful colleagues: Ryan Speedo Green, Eric Owens Latonia Moore, Stephanie Blythe, Chauncey Packer, Brittany Renee, Paul Groves, Krysty Swann, Tshombe Selby, and many more! In April I made my Metropolitan Opera debut in the opera Champion written by Terrance Blanchard and conducted by maestro Yannick Nezet-Seguin. I sang the roles of Benny Kid Paret and Benny Jr. We are nominated for a GRAMMY and it will air on PBS or MPT this evening check your local listings. It’s going to be EPIC!!!!! Last I was blessed by the artistry and generosity from my brother Lance Williams and this amazing cast! I was moved to tears!! This is a most see!! Gift yourself!
