@ericcotten and Deb wanted something very tactile and handmade, contrasting the current move deep into digital and AI, so they brought on director and animator Miceál O’Donnell
@micealodonnell to bring the story to life in stop motion with 2D paper puppets. All puppets are hand drawn, colored, cut out, assembled with little paper joints, with all layers shot separately.
From creating test characters, to capturing the dialogue with voice actors Sheryl Lee Ralph
@thesherylleeralph and Maximus Turner
@go_maximus , to creating the score with composer Rick Szybowski
@rszybowski , to animating, the full team has been working on CHURCH HAT for over a year and a half.
CHURCH HAT is at the tail end of post-production and currently working on a strategy to position the film for a top festival premiere. We are so excited to share this update and the film’s new trailer. Hats off to the team on their achievements!
