Teacher Reflections: As a teacher, I think it's important to cultivate curiosity, a sense of wonder, the courage to push yourself forward. But as I gain more experience in teaching. I realized that curiosity has to be paired with a sense of self worth, and an understanding of what it took to get you there (which for every student is always .... A lot). Curiosity has to be tempered by purpose, what do I want to be ten years from now. Are my decisions in line with the person (character) I want to be. Is it at the end of the day worth it. For instance if someone is eager to compete but is not ready and might just get slaughtered or worse injured ...... Is it worth it? after everything did curiosity serve a purpose or a temporary joy. A teacher's primary goal is to make them love dance and of course teach them how to dance But you also need to teach their students to pursue growth not satisfaction. that's hard..... I'm still figuring out how. Hahaha. Featured dancer Dustin Igares #hamptoncourtballet #teacherreflections

Still on my teacher reflections. Today it's about giving your student the gift of confidence. Sometimes u just want to put it in a box and give it to your student. Call him or her and give. 100 superlatives but in ballet it doesn't work like that. confidence is a response to mastery of steps and hard work. Words from a teacher is hardly enough to sustain it. I also find that a teacher must maintain composure and choose the right time to give superlatives so that the student really believes it. It has to be the right time and place, the right situation. So I think every teacher's prayer is for a student to LEARN how to work hard and smart so that they can stand on their own two feet without validation. A teacher's vote of confidence is good but growing confidence through hard work is better. Just my opinion :) #teacherreflections Dancer @kulotsss_ RJ Igares

When we started our scholarship program, I felt it was too ambitious but me being me, I forged forward. and now years after I realized it's ok to dream big even if ur a small person like me . Some of our kids have already graduated and moved on to professional endeavors . And what I thought was remotely possible was indeed a breeze with a few obstacles that kept it exciting. So I guess I need to keep believing that dreaming big is totally a great idea. Teacher Reflections

When you take care of students , you try to give them everything they need to be ready for the outside world. It's a wonderful thing to see them grow their own wings. But the outside world is not always fair, not always kind. So among the things they need is a pocketful of humility, loads of patience and faith. Dancers need a good environment, good influence, good mentorship even after they leave their schools. They need sound advice from parents friends and people who care. The same goes when they explore a different field. It takes a village to succeed and be happy. It takes a lot of prayers. When I look at how big my school has become I feel like kulang ang hours in a day to pray for all of them. :) u can only hope that the divine will bless them all with everything they need on the road to exactly where they want to go. #teacherthoughts Dancer : @awiiilaneeeh_ #hamptoncourtballetfamily

These days I'm sentimental about teaching. And so i have a lot of thoughts. I wonder if students understand the joy they bring to their teachers when we see them loving what they do. Most kids think a teacher will be happy when they win ,when they achieve things when they are in the spotlight. but really for me, I'm happiest when I see them happy. Achievements mean nothing to me and i'm not hypocritical......it's the brave steps that do. It's the right attitude that sways my heart. It's the glimmer of light you see in their eyes when they perform, the smile u see after a performance. It's the tight hug that comes after that moves me . It's when the dancer feels the joy from dancing that makes me happiest. Featuring @jiwyyyyy

What most people don't understand is being a teacher is a 24/7 job. It's parenting inside and outside the studio. You can't separate technique from values. You can't stop loving students when they step out of the studio. ♥️ Students may not always see how proud u are of them but there's a sliver of hope that one day they see themselves as you see them, beautiful. :) Featuring : @jlornakid #teacherthoughts
