RIP…3 years ago today marks the passing of a true pioneer. From Art Blakey, Miles Davis, to being a founding member of Weather Report, to his “supergroup” with Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock and Marcus Miller. His compositions are enduring. It was Wayne Shorter that made me appreciate the soprano saxophone, an instrument I knew little of until discovering him. He lived a long life in music, performing for 70 years, and continuing to compose music in his final years. Tina Turner claims that Shorter saved her life, welcoming her into his family home for six months after her breakup with her abusive husband in 1976, providing refuge and support. A life well lived…I look up to him as an inspiration and role model. 🙏🏼☮️❤️
